Seriously, these people are LUCKY they had Mark around. Main character? Boring as hell. Girlfriend character? Good actress, boring as hell writing. Doctor? Love that actress. Did what she could. Mark? The GOAT, for real. My brother and I cheered almost exclusively for Mark, everyone else can eat it. And they did! Mostly.
I watched this movie with my family after stumbling upon it, and we all enjoyed it. The ending had me sobbing over the bowl of soup my dad made. My mother read this book to my brother and I as children and I remembered loving it but couldn't remember the story, and this was a great adaptation. I don't know why half the reviews are complaining, it's a good movie! It deserves more than the current score of a 6, at minimum a 7 but truly I'd give it an 8. I'm giving it a 10 because I want to raise the score from the BS 6 it currently has. ...Why do I still need to write 50 more letters, I said what I wanted to say.
This movie was very well done. The acting from EVERYONE involved, the writing, the story and setting and all of that. It was all very well done. But I will never watch this movie again. It was... how would I even say this. Traumatizing is the wrong word. Unsettling is a little too weak. I cried. It really hit me hard, deeply affected me. It made me sick to my stomach, especially at a particular scene, the one where he makes the man strip. You'll know it when you see it, it's towards the end. I heard they method acted for it, that Viggo starved himself. It shows. In great but terrible ways. It's a very sad story, but I suppose that's to be expected. I didn't come into it prepared. It was just a flick my mom put on because she wanted to watch something together, she went "Oh! It's Aragorn!" and that was the extent of the thought process there.
