I was so excited to see this after watching the trailer, but for me the trailer was the best part. The movie was long, boring and way too preachy.
Two girls being possessed was not twice as scary. Other than one cheap jump scare there was really nothing scary here at all. I'm not sure why they bothered. Even the exorcism scene was lacking and the ending was just too simplistic. It was nice to see the actors from the original film pop up but they had nothing to do with the plot of Believer.
I wish I had waited until it was available to rent to stream at home. I would strongly suggest you wait until you don't have to waste the cost of a theater ticket.

This was not the folk horror I was expecting from the trailer and the descriptions of a woman who goes off to recover in a remote country cottage after a tragedy.
It was less horror and more about dealing with grief and PTSD.
It was strange to see all of the male characters except for one portrayed by the same actor. I am assuming that was supposed to mean that all men are the same due to the heavy themes of toxic masculinity throughout.
Near the start of the film, there is an excruciatingly long scene with an echo. If you get the urge to fast forward it a bit because you can't stand it anymore, but like me you are afraid you may miss something spooky, fear not and go for it because you won't miss a thing if you skip those 4 minutes of "ah ah ah" echoing back.
The final 15 minutes of this film make up the most original, bizarre, and unsettling endings I have ever seen. If there is an award for the weirdest ending this is where it belongs.
I would have given one more star if not for this movie's migraine-inducing musical score.

I thought with all the improvements in special effects over the last 40 years the remake of Carrie would be amazing. What a disappointment. Not that any special effects could ever be as spectacular as Piper Laurie was but what mediocre acting and anticlimactic dud of an ending.
