  • Why does this exist?

In the 2010's, there was a trend of LEGO direct-to-DVD movies being churned out. While there's not as many as there was being pumped out at the same time, there are still these kinds of movies out there. And one of these movies is "LEGO Friends: Girlz 4 Life". And yes, it's intentionally spelt like that. My first major complaint is the animation. It looks fine, but there's barely any LEGO in this movie, in a movie based on the toys. Even the 2012-2015 TV series had LEGO in it. Then there's the soundtrack, which is fine, but my complaint here is that the movies headlining song "Girlz" is played, what, like, 5 times in the movie? Now, the plot of this movie is that the girls recorded the "Girlz" song, and then Olivia gives the agent of Livi, a pop star, a flash drive with the song on it, leaving Livi to call it her own song. Then the girls devise a plan to get the drive, and tell her "Hey, this is our song!". In terms of the character portrayal, Andrea, at the start of the movie, feels like a selfish little twerp who only cares about fame. Though, thankfully, she redeems herself towards the end. And the voice acting is pretty bad. Because the song "Girlz" was recorded by L2M, a band made up of kids (why?), they didn't bother to rerecord the song for the adult actors. Also, the credits is a literal music video, showing the deities who made this movie. So, all in all, this is not a great movie for kids.

  • It's actually.... average.

We first had Ryan's Mystery Playdate, and that was an awful show, then we had HobbyKids Adventures, and that was also an awful show. So, with waning ratings, Nickelodeon greenlit a Baby Shark show. Originally, I wrote this review with early impressions in mind, and I gave it a 3 out of 10. But honestly, my opinion on the show has changed a little, and you know what? It's alright. The music's fine, the animation is OK, the voice acting is good, heck, I even laughed at some of the jokes. Of course, there are some cons, the humor is (sometimes at least, like I said, I laughed at some jokes) not always great, and there was one really stupid thing in the first episode. Baby and a fish named William try to get a tooth out, but they keep struggling. So they, get this, tie an anchor to Baby Shark's tooth, and throw it in a water warp. That's such a dumb idea, and guess what? It worked. What did I expect from a show directed by the masterminds who created Breadwinners? But anyways, the show is passable, and should always be remembered as "The show everybody but me hated on because it was based on an annoying song".

Ryan's World. A very famous/infamous YouTuber who unboxes toys and gets millions of views from them. Now, he's taking over Nickelodeon, and boy, how the mighty have fallen. The theme song is a joke, I know it's trying to be "wacky" and "silly", but when you know the theme song remix on the Nick Jr. Website is somewhat better than the original, you're in for a bad time. One major flaw this show has is that it teaches kids, pretty much, nothing. Aside from problem solving and working as a team, that's it. So how do we teach kids nothing? By dragging out the episode with repetitive challenges and painfully unfunny jokes. The line delivery is appalling, now yes, PocketWatch, the company behind this show, stated that "the show is mostly unscripted", but there's tons of bad jokes, like "That's sauceome!" It tries way too hard to be "hip" and "cool", by having Ryan dab. In the year 2019. I mean, it's based off a YouTuber, what were you expecting? Combo & Gus do absolutely nothing, bar making some bad jokes. Also, the animation for them is appalling. However, there are some pros, the whole "mystery box" segment is the only enjoyable part of the show for me, and they added new secondary characters and the animation improves by season 3, but it doesn't fully fix the show for me. If Ryan wasn't the overmilked child he is, we wouldn't have got this show. But alas, it exists.
