Families, relationship, especially the parent-child relationships are intricate and complicated. Sometimes the best of intentions are not just not enough and sometimes parents are all too human -- and the children suffer as a result. This movie is all about that complexity but it is also about the love that still exists between the parent and the children.
If you are looking for a movie that covers the perfect parent-child relationship or a traditional familial kitsch that is the hallmark of South Asia , you should move on. But you if you are looking for a nuanced look at the complicated relationships that sometimes exist in desi families in one form or another, this movie will not disappoint you.
In addition, this movie is all about its women, its men are either useless, non-existent or just props -- in short they are like women in most other Bollywood movies, if that offends, you, maybe you should go watch Salman Khan's movies instead.

When you hear of the idea, it's intriguing and the initial episodes certainly live up to those expectations. However, perhaps the makers could not get over the local tropes of drama making which may, somehow, mellow down the execution particularly for the international viewers. Nevertheless, the series kept me thoroughly engaged throughout, despite it's flaws and a rather melodramatic ending.
The latter hour and a half of the movie is indeed as great as all these rave reviews would suggest but the first hour of the movie was completely empty. Nothing worth watching in it. It was, however, saved by that sensational second half.
