Yes, it's true that a number of tourists have been caught in the outback and died from dehydration and heat stroke
Notwithstanding, this movie about a young couple is unrealistic and the storyline is pretty poor.
The male tourist had a physical map and had already mapped the road trip along the coast line between Sydney and Far North Queensland.
However, the spoiled girlfriend, who had rejected his proposal for marriage, convinced him to go Inland instead, deep in the outback.
They relied on a precursor to Google maps for directions. That gps sent them in a completely wrong direction.
Strangely enough, they never looked at their physical map.
They inexplicably leave their car despite having sufficient fuel left.
Then make one bad decision after another.
Too many unrealistic holes in the storyline.

Honestly, I didn't expect a lot, being a sequel.
However I found myself enjoying this movie.
Nice blend of nostalgia with silly storyline.
Was so good seeing John Daly in a role perfect for him !
As long as you are tolerant that's a very light hearted movie , it's quite enjoyable to watch.
Shooter McGavin character is quite funny !

The first thing I noticed with this movie:
Casting is very confusing.
It's supposed to be somewhat of a horror comedy. Not sure the director knew what to do to make it a comedy.
Director failed to make it clear to the viewer who is the leader of which country or European union and commission.
For example, it's very confusing to have a British actor pretending to be the US president ! And what about a black woman UK prime Minister. Admittedly, some are easier to identify: Japanese, Italian and French leaders.
But then again, difficult to identify the European union and commission leaders.
While I was trying to figure out , then I quickly lost interest in the plot.
Not sure the story about the archeological site.
Screenplay is okay, nothing more.
