  • Dont Understand the negative reviews

I thought this was a fun reality show and it was exactly what I expected. It was funny and gave you an insight on what would happen if caught in a zombie outbreak. I was glad I ignored the negative reviews because I figured how could it be that bad to be rated in the 4s with such a premise.

The two major critiques I see are is that most of the show is scripted outside of the contestants I assume and that the contestants were dumb. Well for the first critique, what the heck were you expecting??? A show like this has to be heavily scripted outside of the contestants so no one gets hurt. What were they supposed to do, fake the contestants into thinking it was real? It has to be that way. And the contestants have to lnow its fake and have ground rules so others don't get hurt. I don't think the contestants actions were scripted once the challenge was started which is the important part.

And the second criticism about the contrstants being dumb, I partially agree with at least early on. First the contestants ate minor entertainment performers , not rocket scientists or people brimming with common sense. I thought they were pretty inept in the first couple of episodes. However, you could tell once they got usef to the zombies and the game, they performed much better as season progressed. I think it would take anyone a while to get used to it.

If you are into zombies or fun game shows, I recommend this one. Ignore the overly negative reviews and give it a chance for what it is.

  • Excellent show overly stretched a bit

I really enjoyed this show. It was not a complex procedural but it kept the viewer engaged and kept the fun going.

The good: Acting was well done. I enjoyed all the characters except for maybe the female cop (Han Na) early on but that was more of a writing issue which I will talk about later. The main cast and bad guys did a great job. Actors all had great chemistry. There was true acting where actors conveyed messages through looks and nods which were believable.

They also did a great job balancing comedy, drama. And dark themes well. This is not easy to do but for the most part they pulled it off. Once I got used to the way they would shift between them it worked well. By that, I mean they kept them separate. There were no stupid Marvel one liners during heavy drama and that is a good thing. Large sections of the episodes were dedicated to the themes so it never felt like they were bouncing back and forth too quickly. I must give a lot of credit for the comedy particularly early on, there were numerous laugh out loud moments. I couldn't believe how fun it was. This does fade as the story progresses but there are good comedic moments throughout the season. The captain was the stand out here, he was hilarious.

Relationships between the actors and the writing did a great job of getting you invested in all the characters and rooting for them to suceed.

Almost gave this show a nine but there were some issues that knock it down a point. I was going to list a few minor things but all the flaws revolve around the plot being stretched out to fit 16 hour plus long episodes. Its not that i think there should have been less episodes, there was enough material for the episodes. I think it could have been fixed by having two crime plots rather than stretching the one. They also could have resolved some of the personal drama mid season and then handled others in the second half. The main issue is there a lot of plot contrivances and repetitiveness that cause the show to slow in the middle and make story lines like the romance become frustratingly long. When the show was focused it was awesome, it was the areas where it had to extend the plot that it got frustrating. However, I was never completely bored and once the plot was extended, I was drawn in again.

I will also say the third quarter of the show does drag a bit. There is a unnecessary time jump where everything including the romance got reset. The tone of the show is a bit jarring here too. It gets away from the comedy and deals with a lot of dark stuff here. I know i said it balanced the themes well but here is where it felt it wasn't. It kind of felt like watching a different show here. The good thing is if you push through this section, the show gets back on track for the excellent ending.

One last nit, was Han Na, the main female character. Her character is played as an ice queen through the first half of the season and even into the second half. She treats her group so coldly and overly mean. It looked like it hurt her to smile. I have seen this actress in other things and she is good so I don't blame her acting. This must have been a choice from the writers or director but it was odd and not backed up by her backstory. Maybe it is a cultural thing in Korea but it just felt weird and off. The romance pays off in the end though. They really stuck then ending well with the last 3 episodes being :some of the best.

Overall though the positives far outweigh the negatives. The first half if the season is a 9 with the only issue being the wonky love triangle. The third quarter episodes are a 7 but the last 4 are a 9.5 and very satisfying.

It was a very fun show that i hope comes back for another season. I would like to see these characters fighting more crime.
