Peacemaker Season 1 was great and fun (and had an iconic opening and theme song) and even though it was "edgy" it was safe to be connected with the DCEU. However, ever since James Gunn took over the DCU, he really showed his perverted side. Starting with Creature Commandos (which I actually did mostly enjoy except for this) and now Season 2 of Peacemaker, he unnecessarily and overy-sexualizes characters and scenes including very graphic nudity, which goes wayyyy beyond the comics. It was bad enough when he changed the theme song in Season 2, but to add those other unnecessary scenes (which I won't spoil) is just disgusting and really inappropriate when his Superman movie was marketed to kids, and is connected to this show, so they'll find ways to watch it. If he really wanted to do that, he should have kept this show completely separate from the DCU, just like the The Batman movie and Penguin show (which are both excellent and award-worthy, compared to this garbage, and should be part of the DCU). Really not liking the direction Gunn is taking the DCU, and with all the hiring of his friends and family, it's just one big fetish universe for him.
I was excited to see Jurnee Smollett and Taran Egerton star together in this show, and the plot sounded very interesting too. The first episode was really difficult to watch with how slow and uneventful it was. I decided to continue giving it one more shot, and the second half of episode 2 is when things finally pick up and get interesting. From there, it became a great watch and was able binge the next episodes because the pacing improved and the story got more engaging. So, I recommend sticking around for a bit to give it a proper try.
Just finished watching the second season of Nine Perfect Strangers. While not the best writing overall, the show is very enjoyable thrill ride and an addictive watch. Both seasons are fun, but season 2 takes it up a notch with a totally different vibe and beautifully cinematic. I like the way they made this series an anthology-style series with each season bringing a totally different story while having Masha as the central figure that connects the seasons. The casting on this show is amazing and such a crazy dynamic, I mean Regina Hall, Michael Shannon, Henry Golding, Lena Olin, and the list goes on! Nicole Kidman's Russian accent always makes me laugh, but it suits the dark comedic undertones of this show. I hope Hulu renews the show for a third season!
