  • It Was Decent

Watched this earlier today and am still perplexed.

Walking out of the theatre and I thought it was just okay.

Thinking on it a couple hours longer and I like it more. It is an interesting take on the zombie genre.

Decades after the rage virus has struck Britain, a small village has been able to manage. The first half of the film shows a dad teaching his son what it is like to live in their world. This part of the film was thrilling. Zombies and survival, what you would expect. Then they get home...

Second half of the film and all of a sudden the kid is the hero. His feelings were valid, but him going out on his own (as a leader) didn't make much sense when I look back, or in the moment cause he clearly was not ready to be on his own. It becomes an emotional journey between mom and son. It was good, but it felt misplaced? Also, definitely should have had the dad be more involved in second half. Great actor and would have been a good full circle plot.

Then the final scene with the jogger wearing ninjas was just stupid in my opinion.

Idk... I liked it, but it was underwhelming and non-cohesive.

  • Two Series in One Show

I see a lot of reviews that say great first 3-4 seasons then falls off or different ratings for season 1-3/4 vs the others. Personally I thought it was a great show throughout. The first half is stronger due to Travis Fimmel carrying the show as Ragnar, but it's still great throughout. In my opinion, you basically have two shows in one series - the story of Ragnar Lothrbok and then the story of his sons. I love how they did it though. Too often you see shows try to do a spin off series or sequel down the road but they can't get all the same actors or director / producer / writer and then it flops. At least this way it allowed the creators to maintain the original cast for the second half of the series, while continuing to tell a complete, and great story.

The show is fantastically cast for the main characters between Ragnar, Bjorn, Floki, Ivar, and Lagertha. Other characters build and have great development as well. Enjoy it for what it is. Enjoy the ride. And just be happy we got a complete story that has a fulfilling ending.

  • Great Standalone Series, Good Follow Up Series

I watched the original Vikings and then followed it up by watching Vikings Valhalla. Personally, I thought it was a great series overall. At points I liked it more than the predecessor. It's definitely not as complete, but I thought the casting was fantastic, the action is great, and the story is solid. If you are a fan of the original, this is definitely worth a watch.

I'm not sure if there was real life issues that couldn't let the show go longer, I feel like it easily could have gone another 1-2 seasons. That being said, it's a great ride. The ending is good enough that I'm not mad about it, but there are some open ended storylines that leave it up to the viewer to imagine how it goes.

I'll also just throw in there I am a fan of the Viking era, but not a history buff, so I'm not too worried about historical inaccuracies. (Also pretty sure a lot of Viking history is inaccurate in general)
