Impossible not to compare it to Band of Brothers or The Pacific, but hell, The Pacific wasn't Band of Brothers either but well worth the time. I thought the first episode was great. A little Hollywoody in places and I'm sure the detail pickers will have issues, but it had me on the edge of my seat. If I wanted a documentary I'd go elsewhere. I think the gist of the story is conveying the almost hopelessness of what these men were facing. By the end of the first episode, I kind of got that already. Argue all you want but Butler is a star. Looking forward to more episodes. When will the one about the Submarine war be made?
Didn't expect much after reading many of these reviews, (some seem weirdly personal), but was surprised how funny I thought it was. It's not Seinfeld or MASH of course but not even close to some of the lame shows (I'm looking at you Night Court), but all I can suggest is try it because it's a pleasing cast, yes Joel McHale is pretty much Jeff Winger 2.0, but what's wrong with that? It kind of reminded me of Community in that I actually laughed out loud a couple of times and am looking forward to more episodes. Give it an opportunity, it won't be the first time a show that actually is funny gets canceled, but I plan on enjoying while I can.
I don't get it either. Is it the writing? Acting? Direction or editing? All of the above? Compared to any other season or variation of the Law and Order series, season 21 falls flat on its face. If so many fans of the series notice the same, why don't the people who make it see it? Weird.
