Yeah it's definitely cheesy and the marionettes are so lifelike they're creepy, especially when they're laughing maniacally in the beginning, but the creativity and realism are fantastic. The plot is unique, the acting is top knotch and the story is an interesting one. This movie and the original shows by Gerry Anderson are LEAGUES above the dreck that Hollywood has put out over the last 10 years. (Especially the remake. Geesh, what a mess that was) Imagining the actual work involved in making this movie and the shows is mind-boggling and showed true artistry and creativity which is sorely lacking today.
So, as an American it's not really surprising I was completely unaware of the story of Rani Lakshmibai. I get this is fictionalized but I think her story should be in history books everywhere. Like Boadicea of the Iceni, Rani Lakshimibai is another incredible woman of strength courage and power that has been overlooked. I am so happy I found this. This is 100 times better than anything Hollywood has produced in the last 10 years. I keep hearing about a controversy but don't know what that's about and I'm glad. This in my opinion is a top tier movie and taught me something as well as made me want to learn more about India's fight for independence.
Stumbled across this and I absolutely adore it. It's quite funny, then tends to get a bit darker as it goes. One negative the comedic relief tends to go a bit too far on occasion, but most of the time I love the interactions of the whole cast. Karishma is probably the best character I've seen in a very long time. I considered starting a drinking game each time she b*tch slapped the bad guys. The dynamic between her and. Haseena was second only to her dynamic with. Pushpa. Most importantly I love the subtitles. There were bits where there were no subtitles which I can understand as translating has to be extremely hard especially when they're talking very fast. I highly recommend as this cements my belief that Hollywood is dead and I don't care.
