I love Genschow's fairytales, they are very beautiful to look at and charmingly told. Hansel and Gretel is very fast moving and takes about 16 minutes to actually get to the gingerbread house in this 38 minute film. I watched the K Gordon Murray English dub and the original German version. The English dub is very annoying, the witch is very squeaky unlike in the German version also the voice of Hansel in the English dub is clearly not played by a little boy but what sounds like a woman or else a very high pitched teenager witch is unfortunate because three songs are sung by Hansel. Peter Uwe Witt who plays Hansel has a very soft voice because it's of course the voice of a real kid. The first half of the film is about Hansel and Gretel's neighbors Michael and Hellen in the English version and Michael and Lena in the German version. The film is very colorful and the songs got stuck in my head. Plus if you watch the English dub you may notice that it is very accurately translated so it is much easier to understand the German one. The main difference between the two versions is the English dubbing is very annoying but might make the film more enjoyable to an English audience but the German voices are softer and the acting is better. The film definitely gets better the more times I watch it.
