A pretty good samurai movie, some very nice set designs and practical effects. Having randomly come across this on Netflix and not knowing of any of the actors, impressive performances all round. The film is obviously very centered around a real Japanese civil war though, so if like me you go into this with no real knowledge of the events in the film it can be hard to keep up with who's who.

Some cool action set pieces as well and surprisingly gory, despite some very CGI blood early on once the action gets going the film certainly doesn't hold back with gore and characters being chopped up with katanas. The film doesn't feel too draggy overall despite the 2 and a half hour run time (there's a lot of character introduction at the start) a neat film if you're looking for some samurai action.

A very fun actioner, the cast are all great with some decent character development and the film is packed with style. The plot isn't anything new but it's easy enough to follow as each characters motivations are explained and as the film shows how they are connected.

The comedy throughout is surprisingly lackluster however, I certainly wasn't howling or crying with laughter - the film only really gave me a couple of silent chuckles. The action certainly makes up for it though, some decently choreographed scenes and for this type of over-the-top action comedy the gore wasn't too in your face which I appreciated.

Overall a solid Saturday night popcorn flick.

As an avid fan of Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham I was very much looking forward to another collaboration from them, but Operation Fortune unfortunately is leagues away from the likes of Wrath of Man, Lock Stock etc. In fact it's almost like this film was directed by someone other than Mr Ritchie as there is little to no style compared to his previous works and the plot is just far too similar to other typical spy-action films.

There also seemed to be a lack of typical Statham ass-kicking compared to his other martial arts films and there are certainly no big Mission Impossible level stunts to add to the action.

The cast and script is still decent to keep you engaged but I certainly expected a lot more - still an ok film if you're looking for a popcorn flick to switch your brain off for 2 hours, I would say 6.5/10 overall.
