This starts off laugh out loud (literally) funny in the first few minutes, but then it gets fairly disturbing and not too great. Some of the material is cringe worthy and seems like it'd be better suited for a therapy session than a comedy special designed for entertainment and enjoyment. Rather than this, I recommend Kumail's film "The Big Sick," instead (which he wrote with his wife) that is absolutely comedic genius! It's also a true story. Furthermore, I'd also recommend the action/comedy film "Stuber" in which Kumail stars in the lead role. He's awesome in that one! As for "Beta Male," I did enjoy a bit or two, but unfortunately it went downhill, and I had to fast forward through an ample amount of disappointing content and material that lacked humor for a while. Overall, choosing "The Big Sick" and "Stuber" films over this is the way to go for heaping helpings of hilarious entertainment!
Despite the fact that some of this comic's material is raunchy, gross, and cringe worthy, he just may be one of the top 5 standup comics alive. Morril is wildly creative and absolutely hilarious. His shows offer several laugh out loud moments and extremely sharp and witty wordplay and social commentary. Even when he's grossing out or borderline offending his audience, he manages to often turn it around with funny doses of self deprecating humor. I can't make it through most so called "comedy specials" because I find most stand up comedians to be painfully unfunny and often disgusting and mean spirited on top of that. However, I have found myself eagerly watching every one of Morril's shows that I can track down, because he is a one man laugh riot with a ton of talent. I am glad I stuck it out through some of his raunchy bits and stayed around for the awesome parts that had me cracking up!
This is an excellent and comprehensive tribute to one of the most famous musicians of all time. It does a fine job depicting his impact, genesis, accomplishments, and untimely demise. The interviews included are well chosen, revealing, and interesting. One aspect that could be improved is they could have omitted when one of the interviewees started giving his own life story and when another started saying he didn't like two of Marley's albums! It also would have been nice to see more interview footage of the man speaking for himself. However, it was very nice to have subtitles included on this production. Unfortunately, many of the documentaries conceived about Marley lack subtitles, but this one contains them from start to finish. Perhaps the best part of this production is the score! This is is because in addition to Marley's music, it features a lively and wonderful reggae style instrumental beat in spots that I don't recall ever hearing before! If you're looking to learn a lot about Bob Marley, including what he stood for and why he was so beloved, this is a very worthwhile documentary.
