Hogan-23018's rating
Not every movie can be a big budget classic, but this was a blown opprtunity. Good acting over-shadowed by low production budgets. Feels like a comedy show writer / director was forced to do a serial killer biopic. Pretty cartoonish. A respectable effort but the light-hearted feel of the dialog and photography made it feel more like a YouTube short rather than a movie. Also total mis-casts at almost every turn. It was amateur but a respectable attempt to tell a dark story within time constraints. Why does it sound like I'm rambling? Beacuse I am in order to meet the minimum characters required.
Good looking, well shot movie with fun cameos. Clearly, a well-made film spiked with excuses for those who murdered in the name of peace. I recommend watching it and then researching the real life people.
Despite LeBeof's off-screen antics, he's a believable actor. I wish Nolte's character had more development and screen time.
The additions of Sam Elliott and Chris Cooper's performance always adds an element of believabilty to the story as does Stanley Tucci's performance.
Susan Sarandon was perfectly cast as the once-sultry, now dour suburban mom who used to rob banks, smoke weed, and fight the power.

Attractive, cinematic photography and comically ludicrous Chicago accents, but what is going on in this movie? I couldn't cobble together the characters in a cohesive story. Interesting comment on mid-century American counter culture that's not the typical Woodstockian trope about fighting the man and tripping on LSD. Everybody looked great and ready for an interesting story even based on tall tales or lost weekend motorcycle gang drunkeness. Danny Lyon's photography was brilliant but is this even a real story? I guess this is why one doesn't base movies on photojournalism coffee table books. Wasted opportunity.
