  • "We're Going To Need A Bigger Ship!!!"

If you are a fan of the original Alien series then you are probably going to love this! The atmosphere is spot on! Dark and wet an creepy with jump scares aplenty. The whole "tone" is right on point and after some pretty dismal sequels in this franchise I am so pleased that we are back on track.

No spoilers here - you probably already know the basic premise so just sit back and enjoy. The visual effects are superb and it doesn't look like any corners were cut here. The cast is perfect and the dialogue is right back on track with Easter eggs everywhere.

I'm really looking forward to seeing where these relaunch takes us but for now - stay frosty and check those corners!!!

  • Beautiful Scenery But Formulaic Storytelling

It's great to see Eric Bana back on the small screen after such a long time. He's a terrific character actor and is singularly the best thing about this mini-series by a mile!

Set in the stunning Yosemite National Park, Untamed is a story of a young woman whose body comes tumbling down one of the high peaks, almost wiping out a couple of climbers before becoming entangled in their climbing ropes. And so our story begins...

I can't really say too much more as there are a few plot twists and reveals that I really don't want to spoil for anyone else who hasn't watched this yet. The scenery is incredible and shot after shot of the beautiful park almost takes you right there. Sadly this is not matched with the storytelling which is a little stereotypical and not half as clever as it is trying to be. EB plays Kyle Turner, an investigative services branch employee of the park rangers. Predictably he has a sad backstory, a heavy drink problem and is gruff and difficult to work with - we've all seen lead characters with these personality traits before and it is all a bit obvious. Again, no spoilers here so enough of the story from me. If you like Criminal Minds and CSI then you'll probably enjoy this one too.

You'll probably guess the story plot line long before the final episode which is a shame as it starts out strong but wanders down the cliche path all too easily and does make you work to figure out what is happening like say True Detective did. The park is definitely the star of the show along with EB but I don't think we can get excited about a sequel.

  • Gritty & Unrelenting!!! Love it!!!

So you see that MobLand is written by Guy Ritchie. Ok good. Another tongue in cheek cockney geezerfest right? Wrong! Very wrong!

MobLand is the tale of two warring factions in modern day London. The usual thing - drugs, money & power. Helen Mirren & Pierce Brosnan are the Harrigans who have their greedy eyes set on taking over the entire heroin trade assisted by the formidable Harry played fantastically well by Tom Hardy. He is the "fixer" for the family. Stabbed someone in a nightclub? No problem, call Harry. Need a family member rescued from chainsaw wielding cartel lunatics? Call Harry. You get the idea!

No spoilers here. The game is only just beginning and the story unfolds slowly at first but by episode 7 we are into full on Scarface mode and the action comes thick and fast. A great storyline given the time to breathe that a 2 hour movie simply doesn't have. An awesome supporting cast and thumping soundtrack make MobLand a great watch!
