This movie is complicated. There were so many intriguing aspects that I really wish they had dug into. Meanwhile, it was muddied up by an excruciatingly annoying protagonist & stretches of 10-15 minutes where it was tough to decipher what was even happening given the shaky cam (& I love found footage, so that's saying a lot)
Pros:
Cons:
Moral of the story, would I recommend to a friend? No, not really. But it got in my head so much I had to write a review, so, I guess that's art for ya.
Pros:
- The last 15 min of the story (not the weird rapping @ the end) had so much promise. I'd 100% watch a whole movie on whatever was happening there
- Practical effects were fun and effective to me
Cons:
- Annie is so unlikeable it's just annoying to watch. I see folks saying that that's just a sign of good acting, but from what I've seen of the actor in real life, maybe it's just better casting than acting
- The writing was very 12 year old boy "s*** in my d***". She must have said that 50 times. It felt lazy to me, but I recognize some people are into that humor so perhaps just not my taste
- for a runtime of 76 minutes, I found myself pausing to see how much longer it had. But then abruptly ended when it actually got interesting.
