I'm not familiar with the manga or the live action series (though I intend to at least watch the live action if I can find it) so this review is based solely on the OVA.
I knew a few minutes in that this was going to be very different when the main character showed her disdain for a rival gang member by taunting her for wearing underwear!? Welcome to the wild world of juvenile delinquency, focusing mainly on girls who do what they have to do in a tough environment. It's all very interesting. I think the only flaw is that we get introduced to so many characters and gang names are thrown around but we don't get to explore any of them in dept outside of Asuka and a troubled schoolmate whose "friends" not only bully her, but get her involved in some unsavory activities.
As a fan of WIP and girl gang movies, I recommend this curiosity.

Red Riding 1983 is the final chapter in the Red Riding series. After wallowing in the depths of despair and depravity of 1974 and 1980, this last film in the trilogy continues the gut wrenching journey towards the truth about the disappearance of several little girls.
I absolutely love this series and rate each one a 10. This movie is as captivating as its predecessors, with stellar acting across the board. And let's not forget to mention the soundtrack! It's a wonderful assortment of soul music. I immediately searched Spotify and was so happy to see a collection of the music from all 3 films!
I'm not sure why this film doesn't rate higher on IMDB. In my opinion the entire Red Riding trilogy is filmmaking at its best. Now if they would just do the theatrical version!

Kobato is easily one of my favorite anime's of all time! This was a blind watch for me, I knew nothing of the story. From episode one I was hooked and cannot recommend it enough.
This show is flawlessly executed. Not one character is wasted, there are no useless filler episodes, the music is AMAZING, the animation is gorgeous, and the story is beautiful. I cried or was near tears every single episode. Yes, there are many sad moments, but it's a bittersweet sort of feeling and somehow hope remains that all will be as it should be in the end. That's the spirit of Kobato.
Kobato will make you laugh, it will definitely make you cry, and it will make you think too. Don't miss this wonderful show!
