First of all i need to confess that i am an idiot for not watching this movie for a long time as i was put off with the poster, but then i got around to watching the movie yesterday and i was blown away with the movie for its uninhibited portrayal of characters. The movie starts off with Jamie Randall(Jake Gyllenhaal) being fired from his sales job due to his services for a woman and he ends up as a medical rep.He then meets Maggie Murdock(Anne Hathaway)in Dr. Stan Knight(Hank Azaria)consulting room as she has early symptoms of Parkinsonism which is quite rare for a 26 year old and the movie moves beautifully from thereon. In addition to this you have oliver platt and josh gad playing as a partner and brother to jamie's character. The screenplay is really good as it is very uninhibited in its portrayal of maggie's character of being free spirited and jamie a habitual playboy which usually doesn't fit to a normal Hollywood film which we have all watched till now. With previous movies like glory, last samurai, blood diamond and my personal favorite being about last night, the director edward zwick has handled the movie so skillfully.Every scene is so beautiful to watch. At the same time the performances of the two leads and the chemistry between them them is electric.Anne Hathaway is brilliant and extremely beautiful and the nudity gels in with the movie, definitely one of the best actresses of our times.Jake Gyllenhaal is spot on in his portrayal of a character who is so unsure about himself at a personal level and at same time being so confident with the women,he carries out the character with ease.Taking the movie to another level is its catchy soundtrack. All said and done i would not say that this is a cinematic masterpiece but it is definitely one of the better movies to watch when compared to the usual Hollywood stuff out there.
What can i say about the way i felt during the course of watching and post watching the movie?it was just pure exhilaration that tamil cinema has directors who think so modernly but still not losing their cultural ground. The basic premise of the movie is about a guy who comes to the city whose flight is due in the morning to one of the gulf countries. He realizes he wont be able to drink anymore let alone do any other things in that country and then from thereon he along with his soon to be brother in law starts the quest for that one quarter of happiness.Add to it some wonderful characters of gamblers, politicians, women,an 18 year old schoolgirl, car chases and a card game and you end up watching an amazing modern tamil cinema.I loved this piece of art and would not dissect the movie as i recommend all my tamil brothers to watch this awesome movie and decide for yourselves.Cinematography is just so breathtking in showing the city during the night.Direction is really good as well as the music. But what stands above everyhing else is the performances of shiva,s.p charan, lekha washington, john vijay and all the other actors, they are just amazing.A very highly recommended movie and a definite cult movie for movie enthusiastic or fanatics like us....CHEERS
First of all i need to say that i am not a fan of Mr.Bhandarkar's movies. His movies being realistic is pretty much a joke as all his movies are very superficial, but apart from that the only reason i watched this movie is due to ajay devgan,he's one of the most underrated actor of our times.Anyways the basic plot is 3 guys,a soon to be divorcée,a playboy and a poet leave their respective homes for different reasons and end up together in ajay devgan's house.soon they meet up 3 random women and fall in love. Will they succeed in finding true love forms the rest of the movie. Now the positives of the movie, the performances of ajay devgan, emran hashmi and omi vaidya are commendable and they save the movie from sinking immediately which the film ends up eventually. The performances of the women are nothing special to write about as they play the usual girlie characters, very forgetful ones.As i am a south Indian and i do believe one should not give up their local language so the preference given to marathi is appreciated.Music is okay.Dialogues are surprisingly witty, modern and intelligent.Direction is okay. Now the negatives, the usual fault of the director that is to be superficial in his approach to story telling, there is absolutely no character development. The poor guys don't even realize why they keep losing in love. The movie is all about running behind women, giving lifts to women and providing money when in need, does this make women fall in love,i don't think so.In trying to be too modern in his approach to show how his characters should behave the director loses his grip on realism.Being a guy i did have a few laughs during the movie but ended up being depressed for all the men by the end of the movie.Watch the movie for the 3 actors performances and please stop saying that these kind of movies reflect the real India.
