    Superman (2025)

This was one of those films that I went to see out of necessity because James Gunn is rebooting the whole universe and I got to inspect the foundation. Sadly, it all resembled a beautifully painted shack and not an admirable skyscraper. Instead of being one continuous immersive experience that makes us connect with the characters and the struggle they are going through, the movie was a collection of events poorly taped together without ever feeling whole.

For a film titled Superman, I expected him to be the central figure and to command every scene that he was in. James Gunn specializes in outcast team movies, and for some bizarre reason, he decided to film Superman in the same way. As a result, Green Lantern, Mr T and even his dog ended up having much cooler and impactful on-screen moments than the supposed protagonist.

From the way this film was built up, I thought I would be standing up and cheering for the heroics but instead, it felt like Superman was doing an internship instead of being an actual hero. I didn't feel a sense of power, gravitas or inspiration from such an iconic hero. The positivity is definitely there but there are too many ridiculous moments like saving squirrels.

One thing that was done right was bringing attention to the ongoing gencide and the stealing of land. However, the film failed to create powerful emotional or inspirational moments. The main reason were the constant out of place jokes where every single character was being a comedian and while it worked in Guardians of the Galaxy, it didn't here.

While I wasn't a fan of David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion and Nicholas Hoult all had great performances. Mr T was by far .y favorite character. Some visuals and action scenes looked outstanding but overall, the film felt highly forgettable because of the poor writing. The amount of illogical decisions, exposition and plot conveniences was ridiculous. I certainly wouldn't recommend rushing to the cinema for it.

  • Full heart, passion and excitement... Must watch on the big screen

Brad Pitt has always been an incredibly cool actor and in this action packed drama, he plays Sonny Hayes a no nonsense retired F1 driver. At the start of the movie, he wakes up, does some pull-ups in a van and wins the Daytona race in the middle of the night. Next day Sonny is approached by his friend Ruben who asks him to come back to Formula 1, mentor the team's star driver and help them win at least one race before the end of season.

Cars isn't something I am generally excited by so I was going into F1 with moderate expectations hoping to see a decent drama with a few cool sequences. What I got was a fantastic experience filled with adrenaline, surprises and action so good that it made me feel as if I was in the car. Normally, in racing films the focus is always on the driver which makes it feel like a solo sport. Here, we get to see that not only do the two drivers need to cooperate during a race, but that there are numerous people in the background who help in achieving victory.

The story might be criticized as something that we have seen before and experts in Formula 1 might be nitpicking on the details of how everything works. Personally, neither of these things mattered because the direction was excellent, the story had it's wow moments where I held my breath in anticipation and most importantly it made me feel good in the end.

Additionally, the music selection as well as Hans Zimmer's soundtrack perfectly fit every moment creating an even better atmosphere. The acting was great all around and surprisingly, there were a few properly emotional moments and a good number of funny jokes. To me, this is what cinematic movies are about and I recommend you to watch it in the best experience that is available to you.
