Edward Arnold (Anthony Kirby) is a Bank Mogul who needs to acquire Lionel Barrymore's (Martin Vanderhof) home as part of a real-estate deal.
The home is inhabited by various members of the Vanderhof family, as well as a few other "unusual" characters.
Alice Sycamore (Jean Arthur) is a secretary for Tony Kirby (Jimmy Stewart) and they fall in love. Tony's mother strongly objects to Tony's desire to marry far below her social standards.
When the Kirbys visit the Vanderhof residence to evaluate the proposed union of their son with Alice, crazy things happen, and the police are called.
I won't say anything more, as I don't want to spoil the story!

Eddie Felson (Paul Newman) and his partner Charlie Burns (Myron McCormick) hustle across the country in the hopes of playing the legendary "Minnesota Fats" (Jackie Gleason), reputed to be the world's best pool player. He soon finds himself involved Bert Gordon (George C. Scott), an underworld figure who he reluctantly is forced to deal with. A very good study of life as exposed by a hot-shot pool hustler who finally learns that talent and good looks are not enough to make a success of love or life.
At the time the movie was made, Jackie Gleason was the World Amateur Champion Pool Player. Willie Mosconi, the World Champion Pool Player was technical advisor. Some of the pool shots are spectacular!
