Didn't think this movie would blow me away, but here I am, writing a review for a movie after years, despite having seen tons and tons of them in this gap.
Realistic, raw, and emotional. The characters are very well written. Would've been 8/10 had the ending been Disney-fied; instead, it turned out better.
The song sequences are portrayed with heart, the acting is just the right amount.
The movie stands at 1 hour 40 minutes, which is not too short, not too long. As the credits roll, you're left with a satisfied feeling that nothing dragged on, and the actions of the characters felt genuine and not forced.

The way dementia is portrayed and puts you in the shoes of the person suffering from it, lifted by a memorable soundtrack and immersive performances - it really shows how powerful of a medium films can be. My feelings echo what others are saying about Anthony Hopkins' performance, and how he overshadowed everyone else. The writing and direction is no joke - making the audience connect emotionally with a confused character to a level where you feel like you're the one suffering when he does - is a feat in itself.
I highly recommend it, because it brings in a sense of sympathy and patience in high doses for the people suffering from dementia, something the people who made this movie were aiming for.

Yesterday I thought of watching it, but first consulted the internet - IMDb, to be precise. A 7/10, meaning it was an average movie. Today I saw it and was completely blown away - A different and emotional take on Sherlock Holmes. Now that I'm back on this site, it's rating has dropped to 6.9. What a shame, you people. Is it the movie's fault for not feeding you everything about Sherlock Holmes you already know, and for trying something newer and better? No. Did the movie help you make emotional ties on a deeper level with the world's most famous sleuth? Yes. Movies like these make me want to bank my trust on the critics consensus of RT, because if horrible movies (I'm not naming them here) have a place in IMDb's above 7 list, then I just lost my faith in IMDb and most of its voters.
