I loved The Original Series, I loved The Movie. I even liked the first 2 years of this show. But these past two seasons has been an exercise in absolute torture. Clearly no one wanted to be there anymore and it showed. Characters we used to like turned nasty and rude, and the writing totally went South. Corner Gas should be used as an instructional tool to teach future writers what not to do. Or better yet, use it to teach TV executives a foolproof way to destroy an unwanted series.
It seems like Lacey is becoming more and more of a b***h every episode this season. Especially in the way she's been treating Brent. I wonder if it's what the writers want or is the actress wanting off the show?
Given the current state of the world, Hank's actions may be viewed as criminal instead of funny. Same goes with Oscar's nonchalance.
I rated it 7 because Seasons 1 and 2 were very good, very inspiring, but not the last Season. It's like as soon as they got to Denver, the writing immediately went South. Characters that we grew to enjoy either disappeared, were marginalized, or just became nasty. (Claire, especially, needed a good dose of crow pie on more than a few occasions. Dinah, too.) The show would devolve into another formulaic urban-kids transformation cliché that the '90s were famous for.
These writers know how to do a prison riot. Lasting the whole season with plenty of plot twists and drama. OZ had the potential to do a great riot, but sadly, Fontana dropped the ball, making it only last a single episode with a single episode follow-up.
Kudos, OITNB writers. Kudos!

If you've already seen the NCIS episode "Dead Man Walking" from the 2006 - 2007 season, (Season 4, episode 16) then don't bother watching this one. It's virtually identical. (A Navy lieutenant, a member of an international nuclear-inspection agency, asks Gibbs to solve the officer's own murder because he knows that someone has exposed him to radiation poisoning. The gang succeed, and they arrest the bad person.)
(The team attempts to solve a murder before it takes place, after a Navy lieutenant commander discovers that he has been poisoned with a deadly amount of radiation.)
Differences: 1) LCdr instead of Lt. 2) New Orleans instead of D.C.
In both cases, the guilty person was a woman.
