We just finished season one and are blown away by the cleverness of the story line, the excellent script, and the incredible acting performances. Jessica Biel, in particular, was really amazing. I have seen her in many roles and was always impressed with her authenticity, but she has blazed a new trail as a serious dramatic actor. Great show!
I think this is less a documentary and more a self-aggrandizing recount of a long-running reality television series. Even the (tacit and semi-overt) "admissions" regarding negative health outcomes for some participants just didn't justify the length of time required to watch this offering. I fear it just didn't break any new ground about this topic.
If one accepts the utterly implausible unifying situation underpinning the entire narrative, Dept. Q has its moments.
Carl, a former top-rated detective, is wracked with guilt following an attack that left his partner paralysed and another policeman dead. On his return to work, Carl is assigned to a cold case that will consume his life.
Matthew Goode was fine in the lead role, although his sarcastic/dismissive attitude and expressions grew tiresome.
Kelly Macdonald was gold - as usual. Chloe Pirrie did a nice job with a substantially limited opportunity.
In our house, we are working on suspension of disbelief. Good luck with your journey in your new career at... Department Q.
