Hi, I’m Yavor Alipiev

I’m passionate about art and cinema. I create short, low-budget films, and I run a small art brand called Perfectly Splendid.

On this page, you’ll find my ratings, reviews, and some movie lists. Here’s how I score films:

10 - Favorite film
9 - Favorite film
8 - Great film (but not a personal favorite)
7 - Very good, I enjoyed it a lot altough the flaws
6 - Okay film, but can’t recommend at all to me
5 - Didn’t like it, didn’t hate it (or I don’t remember it well - some scores might be surprising here)
4 - Dull; has potential and some good moments, but overall bad
3 - Very stupid film
2 - Garbage, among the worst
1 - Films that insult the audience - for ex. made only for cash (like the newer Star Wars films)

PS. I rate films based on how much I personally liked and enjoyed them. A movie can have bad acting and poor cinematography but still earn a high score if it wins me over. Likewise, a so-called “classic” can feel dull and end up with a low score.

  • Beautiful

Man... Where do I start. It's short (which is why I watched it - usually don't watch TV Series). It's not very faced-paced, it is really slow at some points, but that doesn't mean bad. It is beautifully shot with a lot of great scenery, animals, countries. Two of the characters are in non-stop adventures which I loved - they go from place to place, trying to go home and meet new people... I love this kind of dynamics.

There are a few stories that cross paths at some point, and it is very well made.

The direction is 10/10, and the script altough cliche and melodramatic at some points, somehow works :D I mean, yeah... Hollywood drama, but made well and really hits you. If you ar esensitive, you will cry! :D

The acting... Man. Altough all of the actors did their job to the max, I believe Julia Schlaepfer stole the show. She just crushed the role, and especially the last episode. They will not give her an Emmy probably, but it is one of the best performances I've seen in my life. Bright future for this one hopefully!

One minus are some not graphic but... disgusting BDSM scenes. I am okay with that, I like BDSM, but this one particular character was too much to me and it was gross (not graphic, that's not the issue, but too much they show how twisted he is, and i turns me off. Creepy disgusting villain.. like sadistic next level.)

Anyway, altough kinda Hollywoodish, there were lots of unexpected deaths, which I really appreciated. Plot armor was there, yes, but didn't last until the end :)

Don't know hat to say. I love mix of all genres - adventure, drama, action, lots of romance and yeah - this one delivers which is rare.

    Final Score: 8/10.

  • Impressive What Your Heart Can Do

Nolan shot this film for $6,000. Like, how actually he did that? The story is good, the twists are VERY good, the non-linear plot works effectively, the actors' performances are above average and the filmed on Saturdays and with no professional lightning equipment. I don't know but people like Nolan and Robert Rodriguez (check his book "Rebel Without a Crew" who basically did the same thing as Nolan) keep my faith that if you put your heart into something, you can do great things even if you do not have the financial support.

Inspirational story behind the film, and a damn good modern noir film!

    Final Score: 8/10.

  • Oh My God... Stay Away. Save Brain Cells.

I'm not even going to go into details but please, if you have any basic physics' knowledge, avoid at all cost. This is nothing more but over-pretentious sci-fi wanna be fantasy drama with some extraordinary acting by Matthew McConaughey, good VFX and obviously bad sound because... Nolan.

He wrote something for people who have no idea what wormhole is and therefore his characters speak not like professionals but like explaining quantum physics to a 5-year old. There is so much bs that I can't really understand why this is rated 18th place of All Time... that does not speak good for humanity's intellect.

3 stars for Matthew's acting and the great chemistry between his character and his daughter who also made very strong role (the youngest actress).

    Final Score: 3/10.
