Couldn't believe I hadn't heard of this film. What a treat it was to watch! My weekend at the movies I thought would be a little light (Freakier Friday) and a little fierce (Weapons) and it ended up fierce and intense as hell! This movie will absolutely ROCK you to the core if you're not ready for it. Just gut-wrenching but beautiful and poignant. Love the dual storytelling with Pennsylvania and Ukraine. Tons of great performances all around and kept me wondering how it would all wrap up. Had me in absolute tears by the end but who doesn't love a good cry?
Been awhile since I'd been to the movies and I had to see what all the hype was about?? I would say I definitely enjoyed the film. Loved how it was told in chapters. Just wished the whole "thing" was a bit more grounded in reality. I know, I know, I went to a genre piece but still.... the eeriness and creepiness always seems more real, when it is!
I might be a victim of expectation, but I just felt underwhelmed by this one. I thought thew acting fell flat. Felt like the performances were mailed in. They are all talented enough that it was passable just not passionate.
Aronofsky's directing style seemed missing and while a mark of a great director might be not noticing them within the film, this one felt like it was missing a director period. Disjointed and uninspired. Still entertaining so I gave it a 5 but felt lacking in many places.
