If I was forced to make just one comment/sentence on this movie, it would have to be: Reminiscent of Pleasantville, but with a better hero! The narration was crisp. All of the cast was a joy to watch and the effects (the window 'movement' shot is fantastic)were top-notch. The story was so interesting and the sharpness of all the shots was so professional, I almost missed the wonderful 'tongue-in-cheek' poke at modern conformist society. Another sign of just how well-done this film is. I was able to see an advance screening of this at the Action on Film festival and I hope to see it at other festivals so word of mouth can get behind it. Once the credits rolled, I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment that the movie didn't continue past its 10 min length. Superb job!
It is rare to come across a topic in film (especially in documentaries) that hasn't been done to death. I was inspired by the real emotion of the six spotlighted members of the LA LGBT community that only wished for a better place to live. Nothing more. The politics, the 'lottery', and the heart-wrenching moments told on camera are what film-making is all about. Hats off to Carolyn Coal who brought this seldom-heard topic to light. What amazed me beyond the well-shot, emotional story, is that most of the selected subjects in the film did eventually get selected for a home in Triangle Square. Seemed prophetic to me. I can only hope that more and more venues like Triangle Square are in the 'works' for more well-deserving people out there.
