This is a really enjoyable watch which pulls at your heart strings at times. I wouldn't say this is a comedy as it didn't make me laugh much but it did have me interested in the story and the characters in a light hearted and warming way. The closest comparison I can give this would be The Way Way Back and Adventureland and if you liked either of those movies then you will like Snack Shack I'm sure.
I liked all the cast and found them all to be believable and cast well in their roles especially when I didn't know any of them prior to watching this.
This isn't really a coming of age as it takes place over 1 summer but at the same time you see the characters develop and mature over that time. It starts out as a simple buddy comedy movie and turns more into an emotional drama while always keeping things light.
Don't sleep on this.

Firstly I will say that I have no affliction to the original and had no issues with this being re-made. I felt Bill Skarsgard was a good casting choice, far better than the previously linked Jason Mamoa. With this unfortunately Skarsgard was the only bit of good casting in the whole movie. He doesn't blow me away but does give a decent performance in the role of a tortured soul with mental health issues. Everyone else just didn't work, FKA Twigs needs to stick to music as I found her performance to be terrible. Every line felt so scripted, which sounds daft for a movie with a script, but none of it felt natural or believable, very stiff and forced.
Danny Huston who keeps getting cast as the villain just isn't strong enough to carry the significant role, he didn't give anything to what could have been a real nasty adversary.
All the other characters also just felt like wasted screen time offering nothing and I guess a lot of that needs to go to the terrible script. The story is fine, but the dialogue is awful throughout. Feels like a robot wrote it. Very generic back and forth scenes.
My biggest issue with this movie is it has no identity. The score and soundtrack is all over the place from 80s music to instrumentals to foreign language songs with varied orchestral melody's but a real mixed, varied bag that didn't go together and failed to create anything that gives the movie a feel.
Overall I watched this and had some entertainment but on a very limited scale for a 2 hour movie. It didn't recreate anything of the original when maybe it should have done to give it a personality and unfortunately just felt like another generic revenge action movie, but a bad one.

This movie sneaked up on me and surprised me how much I enjoyed it. This is a tale about deception, greed and true human emotions and is very cleverly wrapped up in a Tarantino esq story which jumps back and forth in time to show the lead up to an event which is the back bone of the story. Its not so much a 'who dunnit' as its clear who has done what but the events which unravel around it keep you guessing with who and why. Not so much a comedy as it is a drama with some darkly humorous moments.
The cast is excellent. Im never a fan of casting English actors into roles which require thick American accents but Himesh Patel and Lily James do an admirable job. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the stand out performer portraying a slightly unhinged and chaotic character. Certainly a role I haven't seen him perform before.
