  • Idiot balls for everyone!

"The Beast in Me" is not a bad show and it's not a great show. At least it kept me interested enough to finish all episodes, albeit with some close calls.

Hank Azaria once coined the phrase "Carrying the idiot ball" which means: making an otherwise rational and intelligent character temporarily stupid just to move the plot forward and "The Beast in Me" is filled with those moments and that's what made me wanna quit.

I fully understand that this might be a usable and even rational device now and then, but when it appears too many time during a movie or a mini series, you have to question the writing; why didn't they rewrite the build-up instead of just handing out the idiot ball?

  • Treading water.

Like many others i will not inflate the rating based on a couple of episodes. In fact, "Pluribus" hasn't yet actually brought anything fantastic, new or fresh to the table. Many others mentions for example "Rick & Morty" and their episodes with "Unity" and this is pretty much the same concept.

Non the less, it's a good and interesting show, but with some glaring issues. One of them being the pacing. The show contains many prolonged scenes that's just there to fill out time. The same goes for establishing the concept of the hivemind. As for now, that's been tackled with the same questions and answers for three episodes, without moving anything forward.

There's a bunch of other glaring issues with the concept, the characters, how the hivemind works, and so on, but i will stay on the non spoiler part of the hedge.

Besides, this is one of those shows that certainly will expose itself to tons of plot holes, inconsistencies, lack of logic, etc.

I've watched all the, as of now, released three episodes, but from now i will wait until the entire season has aired. The pacing is far to annoying and fruitless for a weekly show if treading water is the established route.

  • Let's milk it! (vulgar pun intended.)

I like "The Boys" and i like "Gen V" because it's pretty much exactly the same thing, for better or worse.

But both shows suffers from threading enormous amounts of water. From taking one step forward and two steps backwards with flip-flopping characters.

    • Let's do something about this!

    • Well that failed. Let's do nothing again.

    • Wait. Are you evil or good now?

    • I think i'm evil? Or am i?

    • Are we friends?

    • Who knows.

Or how about the incessant need to be vulgar? I'm definitely not some sort of sensitive prude, but constantly using "bad language" and making everything about sex, genitals, inserting and purging things from every orifice makes you look and sound extremely unintelligent. Just because you are allowed to do something doesn't mean you should do it constantly.

And of course: the weird and constant focus on race and gender.

I don't care about these things, but i'm constantly forced to care about those things by people who's obsessed with others sexuality and race.

But hey.. I'm writing a review on a spin-off show. Of course it's all about threading water and milking it as long as possible with zero direction.
