This is a great movie. If you are a film enthusiasist and you like silent films, it's highly likely that you will love it. It's indeed ahead of its time, as other reviewers have said. The story is timeless, like fine literature. The messages are great. Beauty and sadness are balanced and the result is cinematic harmony. Furthermore, there is Louise Brooks. This is the first time i watched a movie of hers and i intend to watch more. A great actress, a gorgeous and charismatic person.
According to what i have read, there are two versions of this film. I watched the one lasting about 116 minutes. My advice is to look for this version and not the other whose running time is 79 minutes. I can't imagine what it would be like, missing so many minutes. I am sure it would lack the emotional impact the version i watched, has.
Ending was beautiful, too.

This was so close to be recommendable. By no means it's a bad film, it's well directed, better acted than an average Giallo, likeable characters and not dumb like many Giallos. Problem is, it wasn't that interesting. I am not the biggest fan of this subgenre, but i have watched a lot of Giallos because they are entertaining. Good music, beautiful women, charismatic actors, fast paced etc. Some of them are mostly dumb but still, there is some entertainment value. TCONT is not too entertaining. On the contrary, it bored me at some point. It took itself too seriously for a Giallo, and it wasn't as thrilling and exciting in order to be judged as a typical crime/thriller movie. In other words, it's not as "trashy" at least, to be entertaining, whereas it lacks the intensity of a very good thriller.
However, it's not a bad film, i sort of liked it and most fans of this subgenre, will like it as well. If you are not and you don't have a lot of free time to spare, look for another Giallo.

Up until now, i have watched 4 movies of Antonioni. I consider two of them as masterpieces (La notte, the Eclipse) and the other two as good-but not great- movies (Blow up, Cronaca di un amore). ZABRISKIE POINT is by far my least favorite movie of his. A slow paced movie can be a masterpiece if it's meaningful, if it's beautifully shot, if actors are great, if there is something that make the viewers invested. Almost every arthouse/drama is slow-paced and i am ok with this. ZP is unbearably slow-paced. It meanders a lot without purpose, as the leading characters. I would have probably liked it more if i was older and had lived in this era. Maybe it captures American 70's Zeitgeist perfectly. I don't claim it's a bad film, maybe this is objectively a masterpiece, i don't know, i am not a movie expert. All i am saying is that i found it a bit boring and bland. And i liked movie's sociopolitical messages, i am not even ideologically against what this movie is trying to say, in a not so subtle way.
6 stars because there were some brilliant scenes and of course, it's beautifully shot. But that's it.
