First, I have to say that I've always been a fan of Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey, who always seems to find roles where he's a troubled man with a sympathetic side. You always find yourself wanting to root for him, despite his flaws.
The writing is exceptional in that it breaks down each character into their present and past, and what brings them to where they are now at this moment. The acting is flawless, and sometimes you find it difficult to separate the actor from the character. I found it interesting that several of the co-stars are from other countries; yet, they manage to hide their accents (you're surprised during the bonus scenes at the end of each episode where the actors speak as themselves.). The scenes between characters Tom and Robbie are heartbreaking because they seem to understand each other and recognize some similarities, but their journeys have sadly gone in different directions. They both seem to think that their destinies are set in stone, but wish they could change their actions that put them where they are but knowing that it's probably too late.
While the final episode has not been shown yet, you can't help but wish you could've helped these characters with their fraughtful journeys and prevented what could only be a tragic ending.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started to watch this. My husband and I love thriller/mysteries, and I was hoping to find this in this show. I did, but I was shocked at how much else was incorporated in the show.
Another reviewer mentioned that she thought it was erroneously labeled as a comedy, and she didn't find it funny. My husband and I laughed through every episode. The writing was impeccable, and the interactions between Jen and Judy were quick-witted and hilarious. Sometimes they seemed almost like an improv act.
Every actor handled their part with precision, including the leads Christina Applegate (note: she began suffering the horrendous symptoms of multiple sclerosis during the final season) and Linda Cardellini, as well as the supporting cast. Diana-Maria Riva sometimes stole her scenes, and Sam McCarthy (Andrew McCarthy's son) and Luke Roessler portrayedJen's kids with realism and humor. You could only imagine what was going through Charlie's head as this complete fiasco evolved.
There were cliffhangers at the end of every episode, and all the twists and turns were not far out of the realm of possibility, as many shows have fallen into that trap.
If you're looking for some shocks and awes, laughs, and tears, this is your show. I was very sad when it ended.

My sister and her boyfriend were visiting, so I tried to find a movie that we might all enjoy. I looked at the ratings, and this movie had been on several lists of good movies to stream (though I thought it was interesting that I've never even heard of this movie). We all like Paul Rudd, so that's one of the reasons we chose it. His comedic skills are some of the best. But... First of all, the cinematography is horrible. Much of the film is dark, and even the times when it was shot during the day, it's very gritty.
I agree with the other reviewers who said it's bizarre. That's an understatement. None of the characters are likable. The writing is simplistic at best, and for the life of me, I can't think of what was going through the writer's head when he composed this. I was thinking even I could do better, but I still don't even know what that means because there's really very little plot and just a carnage of slapstick, stupidity, and unrealism. If you're looking for a funny movie, avoid this one at all costs (oh, how I wish I'd stood my ground and chosen Pirate Radio, a sure thing, over this.). It's not even a "buddy film." There just seems to be no purpose to the movie at all. I have to say that we were all very grateful when we realized the movie was finally ending. I can't imagine why Paul Rudd signed up for this film. It was a total waste of our time, and I wish we had chosen another movie (anything but this one).
