  • I loved the first 30min... but

I went into this film with high expectations. The cast is excellent, and the director has delivered great work before, but unfortunately, this one didn't live up to it.

Without giving away spoilers, the structure of the movie becomes repetitive and it slowly breaks the tension. I understand the idea of showing the story from different perspectives, and that the focus here is the people around the situation and not the situation itself. But there is no additional information being added, so hearing the same lines for the third or fourth time starts to drag.

The first twenty minutes are genuinely gripping and everything that I was hoping for. The tension builds naturally, and the movie does a great job showing the personal side of people working under extreme pressure. But that momentum fades fast. What begins with so much promise ends in a surprisingly disappointing way. I could hardly believe it when the credits started rolling.

Like I said, I can see what the filmmakers were aiming for by exploring every character's point of view, but to keep the tension alive, you can't keep stopping and starting over. It feels like the suspense resets every time, and from that point on, the story just loses its energy.

  • fun to watch.. but no Jurassic Park "magic"

This is an action movie with dinosaurs, and that's basically it. The magic that made Jurassic Park so special just isn't there anymore. To be fair, it's hard to surprise audiences with a concept that's been used so many times. And as a pure action film, it's not bad at all.

But with the Jurassic Park franchise, we expect more. I liked the characters, but the story didn't really come together in a satisfying way. It felt scattered, and the connections between plot points were weak. On top of that, the movie lacked real tension. Suspenseful scenes were short and predictable, usually ending with someone getting eaten and that's it.

That's been the pattern in recent films. People either get eaten or walk away untouched, and that takes away any real sense of danger. There are barely any close calls that make you feel the characters are truly at risk.

The T. Rex scene was probably the highlight, along with the opening on the boat. After that, even though the film tries to build suspense, nothing feels truly intense. Most of the danger falls on side characters, and everyone always waits until the last possible second to run or hide. It gets repetitive quickly.

I did enjoy the cast. Scarlett Johansson was great but underused, which was disappointing. The new doctor was solid, and Mahershala Ali brought a nice presence. The family was fine, mostly filling the usual kid role seen in every Jurassic Park, but their screen time could have been cut down. I just wish the film gave us more emotional depth or something to really hook us. The potential was there, but it felt flat.

Would I watch another sequel? Yes.. I know.. but what to do.. I love dinosaurs and action. I just hope the next one brings back the suspense, story depth, and tension that made the originals so iconic.

  • Still early.. but so far so good. (Updated)

When I first wrote this review, I had just finished episode 2. Now that I've completed all 10 episodes, I have a much better picture, and I have to say, it didn't disappoint. I actually really enjoyed it, so I'm updating my review and adding an extra star.

I'm not familiar with the source material and haven't seen the original show, so I came in with no expectations. I enjoy police dramas, but I've grown tired of the ones that follow a rigid formula with no character depth, stand-alone episodes, and barely any ongoing story.

Ballard felt different from the start. The show gradually adds layers that unfold as the story progresses, and by the end, it all comes together nicely. I also really appreciate shows that release all episodes at once, so you can choose your own pace. I ended up watching quite a few in a row and It's a solid ride.

Maggie Q is great in this role. She brings strength and presence, and the character fits her perfectly. The rest of the team also has strong potential, and you can tell there's room to grow with their stories.

One thing I really liked was how the show kept things realistic. Injuries didn't magically disappear, bruises stayed visible, and wounds actually took time to heal. It's a small detail, but it adds a lot of realism, something many shows skip, and it was refreshing to see here.

Overall, I think the story was brought together well across the season, and I really hope it gets renewed. I'll definitely be watching if there's a second season. (hopefully soon)
