Friends: The Reunion (2021)
The Original Binge
There is so much emotion attached to this series that nothing else can ever match. To have them come back together and do it all over again just for the fans is indeed special.
You just can't stop crying when you see them. These 6 characters who gave you company when you were alone, made you laugh in company and have been just a fantastic shoulder to lean on.
All things said and done, this was just a fitting tribute to the sitcom and nothing ever could have bettered this. The real emotions on screen just takes you years back and makes the whole show flash right in front of your eyes.
Highly Recommended!!
Bombay Begums (2021)
Pointless!!
What was the whole point of making this show? I see rather very similar 10/10 ratings and the words are all the same! Corporate politics, infedility, and there is nothing empowering about these shows. Cheating on your husband is not empowering. Cheating on your husband with him knowing is again not empowering.
We need storytellers and not people who keep recycling the same old story from multiple shows and pack it up!
Netflix - Really? You couldn't pick something as good as The Great Indian Kitchen which was rather empowering but you pick up this garbage!!
Mikhael (2019)
Garbage that Rots Real Slowly
Where do I start? Do I start with the absolute lazy acting displayed by Nivin Pauly or a director who just forgot the essence of making something with a good screenplay.
Nivin Pauly can only pull of something like a Premam or other romantic films. Action is not his genre.
Most actors are under utilized and I wonder why most even signed up for this trash.
Unni Mukundan, you deserve better.
Drama (2018)
When Mohanlal does comedy
I don't rush have to say that this movie was pretty hyped. Every Mohanlal movie is hyped nowadays and so will it be going forward as well.
After two duds, Loham and Puthanpanam, Ranjith has stuck to the basics and weaved an extremely simple film revolving around a funeral and the drama surrounding it.
Mohanlal does comedy maybe after Priyadarshan's Arabiyum Ottakom and how much we've missed him in his funny avatar.
He just spirals this movie upwards in an otherwise not so extraordinary support from the rest of the cast. Also, Baiju did a fantastic role.
When Mohanlal does comedy, it's simply magical!! Go for this!!
Broadchurch (2013)
Mind blowing!!
Broadchurch, is simply one of the finest crime dramas. The thrills, the emotions, the background score is just too good.
David Tennant and Olivia Colman are such fine actors. It's a pity that David wasn't recognised as much for his role. His accent makes it even more gripping.
The regret i have is that if only there had been a better supporting cast!!
Aravindante Athidhikal (2018)
How I lost my Mother and then Met her
Let's just agree to the fact that Vineeth Sreenivasan is a great writer, good director, good singer and a very mediocre actor. He just cannot handle emotional scenes. He simply cannot. His body language is way too lazy.
Sreenivasan is criminally misused in the film. He could have been given a meatier part. Urvashi is just amazing and reminds us of the great actor she is. Need to see more of her in Malayalam cinema. The emotional quotient of this film is pretty damn good when the MOTHER arrives. Again fabulously playes by another veteran actress. I wish they could have not added Vineeth's songs in the background during these scenes.
B. Tech (2018)
Wait for the Second Half!!
B. Tech starts as just another campus story. With decent performances by Asif Ali and Arjun Ashokan, the first half scrapes through. I am a huge fan of Sreenath Bhasi, the ease in his acting and the naturality is impeccable.
Aparna Balamurali has nothing to offer here. The highlight of the movie is the music. Rahul Raj gets it right every time, every damn time.
And then we reach the second half. Here is where the movie makes a breakthrough. Islamophobia is managed beautifully by the debutant director. Must watch.
Neerali (2018)
Experimental film Keralites wont digest
I must firstly applaud Mohanlal for giving a shot at this film. A survival film simply revolving around the great acting prowess that is Mohanlal. He eases through the pain with such conviction that you feel for the character.
Ajoy Verma could have made the script meatier but I dont make films so I'd appreciate the effort here.
Go for the film.
Abrahaminte Santhathikal (2018)
Rehash and Rehash
The first fifteen minutes of the film is a mixture of Grandmaster, Memories, The Great Father. And then begins the predictability. Why do we just have people who cannot act get characters as brothers and sons and cousins of Mammootty? Same thing happened with the utterly disappointing Parole.
The second song was just unnecessary. I really wonder what goes through the mind of Mammootty while choosing scripts. Strictly avoidable for reasons known to everyone.
Mammootty as always stands tall in an otherwise thoroughly ordinary script. Malayalam films come up with great content all the time only to have such turkeys come along every once in a while.
Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran (2018)
The Kind of Movie Bollywood Needs
We have people blaming #Bollywood movies for content all year long and when a good film releases there's no one to watch it. Intentionally watched #Parmanu with 50% occupancy and what a film it is!! Such stories need to be told, these are the stories which children need to know.
And not movies on Sanjay Dutt, not movies on Dawood, Haseena Parkar, etc. #Parmanu invokes patriotism in you and that's what should be remembered. Anyway will have people bashing the upcoming Race 3 and blaming the audience for taking it to 500cr.
Whereas a Parmanu silently arrives and leaves without anyone noticing. Hope it gets what it deserves.
An audience!!
Natsamrat (2016)
An ode to the Forgotten STAGE
Natsamrat is the answer to what Marathi cinema can do. Spell Magic. Nana Patekar delivers a stellar performance though falters in the parts he is gripped with alcohol. You have an answer there. Vikram Gokhale excels and takes over the baton with a dash of whiskey. Cheers!! I easily cry watching movies but something was amiss here that even emotional scenes to the hilt couldn't roll down a tear down my face. The direction is pretty good but somewhere the writing lacked depth that it couldn't move a weakling like me. All things said, I doubt an actor or a film can better this in Bollywood. Regional cinema in India is gold. Needs to be excavated more. Yes! Excavated!! I am a Keralite born and brought up in Pune and had to rely on subtitles owing to the tough Marathi used in the movie. Medha Manjrekar who played is better half is good and Mrinmayee Deshpande also delivers. Nana Patekar is supreme and he steals the show.
Safe (2012)
Strictly for the Statham Fans
Let me begin by saying that I'm a Jason Statham fan and this movie is strictly for people like me. It's a regular Jason Statham affair but there's a twist. The twist is a Chinese girl with incredible mathematic skills who has a pretty long number to a safe. The fights are all great in the typical Statham style and particularly the subway chase is pretty impressive. Catherine Chan puts up a good role riddled with emotions aptly used. The direction seemed to be pretty OK but the screenplay was a big letdown. The one thing i missed was the adrenaline rush i, and probably many action movie fans feel. But in the end we have the gunshots, the fights, the chase and Jason Statham at his best. Action. Adrenaline Rush:6/10
Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
Emotional Fantasy
I say Journey 2: The mysterious Island and read about Josh Hutcherson on IMDb. Bridge to Terabithia takes you to a different world altogether, agreed this is a children's film but the emotions attached between the two kids is brilliant. There are those moments in the film where tears would actually role down your cheeks. The fictional creatures, giant trolls, the nagging yet cute baby sister, this movie has it all. I actually found Josh to be much better in this movie than Journey 2: The mysterious Island. This is a complete family film, highly recommended for kids. This movie actually shows the imaginative brilliance of a child's mind. Go for it.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012)
Watchable
Surprised at the extreme low rating this movie has got. Its highly recommended for people who love adventurous films. Michael Caine has been wasted in the movie but the remaining cast is apt. I probably didn't like Caine's character because of the immense respect I have for the The Dark Knight Trilogy. Kids would obviously love the film. even the teens would actually applaud it. I absolutely loved Luiz Guzman's character in the film. Josh Hutcherson has matured as an actor from the Bridge to Terabithia days. The climax of the film is kind of boring and has unnecessarily been extended. At the end I would recommend all of the readers to watch the film at least once, at least for the baby elephants.
