  • Not as bad as some reviews indicate

I saw the original film for which this was based. It was terrifying and original back then. Sadly like MANY remakes, this one falls a bit short. It's not bad though. It's still decent on a day you're in the mood to give it a watch. The actors do a great job with the material they were given to work with. It's the modern updated script that I suspect was the problem. It feels a bit rushed throughout and too obvious where it's all heading. The original had a good slow burn buildup so when it all went bad, it was jarring. But this one goes for the darker side much too quickly thus disappointing the viewer. But like I said, nothing can compare to Rebecca DeMornay as the original lead. She was downright chilling. This woman is more annoying than frightening. And the parents aren't extremely likable in this one. The older child just comes off as a whiny brat which is unfortunate. I didn't feel invested to really root for the "good guys." Nice try though. It's not terrible just not even close to the original. Check out the original though. It's a real treat!

  • An Acting Masterclass

Geoffrey Rush & John Lithgow are brilliant in this very unnerving thriller. These two dig into their characters deeply and although the whole subject is terrifying in general. We all fear aging to some extent I believe because of places like this facility. It seems unlikely that most nursing homes wouldn't have at least one security camera in it but I bet some probably don't have great security with limited funds and shortages of staff. All I can say is that it should be much higher rated than 6. It's way better than most current thriller films of the day. I think if more people saw it, they would enjoy it.

  • Fantastic Series!

On one of my nights of insomnia, I started watching this Spanish series not knowing what to expect. WOW! It was an incredible ride! This show has it all: suspense, drama, secrets, friendships, affairs. I couldn't get enough of it. There are six episodes but they flew by so quickly. All of the actors and actresses are incredible. They are all compelling and gifted. The dialogue is whip smart and executed to perfection. Hulu offers it dubbed in English too which is also nice for those of us who don't speak Spanish fluently. I would highly recommend this smart series to anyone who appreciates true quality in storytelling.
