A Man on the Inside (2024)
Season 1 review!
Just watched the first episode. To be honest, I didn't like the trailer much but decided to watch it because of the creators of the show and the cast: Ted Danson (favorite shows: Cheers and The Good Place), Mary Elizabeth (favorite shows: Santa Clarita Diet and It's Always Sunny...), Stephanie (favorite show: Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Lilah, and the rest of the cast.
The first episode has a good storyline. It's about an old, lonely man who is retired and bored. His daughter suggests he try something exciting, so he takes a job doing secret investigation in a nursing home. His amateurish way and carefree attitude in doing things make it really entertaining.
Overall, I enjoyed the first episode - short runtime of less than 30 minutes, not a single boring moment, and the comedy hit the mark. I will be watching the rest of the episodes and update my review.
Rating: 3.5/5.
Update: Just finished this show, and the first thing I want to say is, if you haven't watched Cheers or The Good Place, Ted Danson will give you one more chance to become a fan of him, or at least his acting. Cheers is in my top 10, and I'd say Ted Danson's acting, sense of humor, and personality are as sharp as ever.
The other actors and their characters are also likable. I would have loved if the old woman with memory problems had been played by Shelley Long, but the actress who took on the role did a good job. There were a few slow moments, particularly in the 7th episode, but that's easy to overlook. I also liked the unexpected short cameo in the final few minutes-it was a pleasant surprise.
Overall, this show strikes the perfect balance of emotions, heart, likable characters, an engaging storyline, and comedy-a combination that's rare in shows these days. I couldn't guess the mystery of who stole the necklace, which is a huge plus, and they ended the season with a scene that hinted at a possible renewal.
If Netflix is asked about season 2, they should just reply with what Ted Danson said in the last line of season 1: "I'm in. 4/5.
Frasier: Father Christmas (2024)
Renew It for Season 3
Just watched the season finale, and I really hope this show gets renewed again and keeps going until season 11. It's not as funny as the original-especially at the start of this episode when the laugh track was going, but I was wondering why it wasn't funny to me. But by the middle of the episode, it picks up, and by the end, I wanted more.
I liked that this episode had more of Alan. This actor has replaced Niles in the best possible way. I really don't like episodes with less of him-he should get almost as much screen time as Frasier. The rest of the cast is amazing as well. I also hope Frasier gets married this time (please don't cancel this show at least until that happens), Roz appears in most of the season 3 episodes, and there are more guest appearances from the original Frasier and Cheers.
It seems like they listened to season 1 complaints about the David character, where many said they didn't like him. But instead of improving his character, the writers and other characters on the show are mostly ignoring him, so he's getting less screen time. The actor's good-maybe some funnier lines or a romantic angle could help. I don't think the show should be canceled, and I'm hoping for an even better season 3 since this one was better than the first. I waited for the new episode every week.
Here are my ratings for each episode this season (out of 10): 5, 6, 7, 8, 6, 6, 5, 7, 6, 7.
St. Denis Medical (2024)
First Two Episodes Review
Just watched the first two episodes, and it's sort of average or maybe a bit above. The comedy didn't really work at first-it felt like the characters were cracking jokes just to entertain each other, not the audience. But eventually, a few jokes did hit. Both episodes have a nice message about helping others and keeping that work-life balance. I liked Allison from Why Women Kill Season 2 and Kaliko from Superstore, and they're both good here too. And it's nice that Matt and Serena will be taking care of the romantic tension business in the coming episodes. So far, they and Alex are the ones I like. Overall, it's a decent, light-hearted comedy show. Although not excited, I'll probably watch the upcoming episodes, hoping it improves. 2.75/5.
Frasier: Thank You, Dr. Crane (2024)
Nostalgia!
I waited so long for this episode and finally watched it! Both Cheers and Frasier are in my top 10 shows of all time, even after watching over 100 TV shows, and this episode reminded me why I loved the original Frasier series. If only Niles and Daphne had been in this episode-it would have been so much better! I'm glad they could bring back Bulldog and Gil, and I'm super happy that Roz is making more appearances in season 2. Seeing Bebe again in an earlier episode was nice, too. I think they really listened to the feedback on season 1 and improved the show. So far, episode 4 is my favorite, and I hope the remaining two episodes are good, and the show gets renewed for season 3. Season 1 was a bit average, but now I look forward to each episode every week and hope it lasts as long as the original Frasier and Cheers!
Tú también lo harías (2023)
Interesting
I just watched the first two episodes, and the story looks good and feels realistic. The witness characters are all interesting, and it was thrilling to watch. I even re-watched some scenes from the first episode to guess what might have happened. I'm glad the episodes are under 30 minutes, as most shows nowadays are over 40. Since all scenes so far are set at night, the show has a darker vibe. The detectives' love story is okay for now; I hope it leads to something in the coming episodes.
I'm excited to watch the remaining episodes and hope there's enough content for all eight. I'll update my review once I finish the series.
For now, I'd rate it 3.5/5. It all depends on how they end it and whether it feels logical and satisfying.
Only Murders in the Building: My Best Friend's Wedding (2024)
Season 4 review!
I just watched the season finale, and overall, this season wasn't as entertaining as I expected after the first episode. Most episodes felt below average, but they did have good endings. This episode felt like a celebration of nonsense scenes, with so many of them packed in. I figured out who the killer was around mid-season, but I hoped I was wrong-I don't really like it when I'm right. Last season, I couldn't guess the killer.
Despite being a bit nonsensical, this episode was entertaining. I loved the dynamic between Charles and his stunt double. The confrontation with the killer reminded me of the season 1 finale. Obviously, we all know they can't kill off the main trio-one is Selena Gomez (who, I think, acted better than in previous seasons), another is the show's creator, and the third is one of the most likable characters. By the end, I was just waiting for someone to die, knowing the show is renewed for season 5.
For me, this episode was the best of the season, but I wish Eva, Eugene, and Zack had more screen time. I thought they'd at least get a significant role in the finale. Eva Longoria looked great, and I hope they bring her back for season 5.
My rankings: Season 3 > Season 4 & 2 > Season 1.
Poppa's House (2024)
Not for me
Just watched the first episode, and I had literally zero expectations for this, or maybe even negative, as I expected not to like it after watching the trailer. Even at the start, when Damon Wayans Jr. Knocked in the first scene and the laughter track audience was laughing like crazy, I thought I would skip this one. But it surprised me. The story and comedy work well, and most of the characters are likable. I liked Tetona's work in Home Economics, and here too, she's good at playing Nina. Her chemistry with Damon feels natural. Their characters and performances are what I liked the most. They've made the Poppa character mostly behave in a crazy manner, like a drunk teen, looking like Will Smith in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, wearing a reverse cap, casual street clothes, and a gold chain. But sometimes he talks sensibly. His name is Poppa in the show. I thought by "Poppa," they meant father, and only his son would call him that. But since it's his name, everyone calls him Poppa, even if he gets a girlfriend in a future episode; she will call him Poppa too. For me, it's not as funny and doesn't have as many good characters as The Neighborhood, but it's still a decent time-pass family drama that you can try. 3/5.
Update: I just watched a few minutes of the fifth episode and decided to skip this show. The way Damon Jr.'s character is written to speak and act is annoying at times. It's not the actor's fault-he was better in New Girl. Also, the son pulling down his father's pants, kissing him repeatedly, and the father blowing his trimmed lower body hair onto his son's face in the third episode is just... I can't watch all that.
Everyone Else Burns: Episode #2.6 (2024)
Renew It for Season 3
I just finished the second season. Although I liked the first season, I wasn't really waiting for the second one. But after watching the first episode, I couldn't stop and finished the season quickly. I have to say it wasn't just good-it was binge-worthy. The story of each character was interesting, and I loved Sian Clifford's performance as Maude. The way she speaks so sensually-only a few men like David could resist her. The ending was satisfying, and I'm glad the story isn't over yet. There's so much more to happen, which gives me hope for another season. I think it was even better than season 1, and now I'm really excited for season 3. I hope this show gets the hype it deserves and gets renewed.
Happy's Place (2024)
Not for me
I just watched the first episode, and it's a very family-oriented show-a show you'd watch with your parents or grandparents, especially if you're under 15 years old. They've added all the elements they thought would make it funny: a guy who's extremely afraid of germs and sprays people with sanitizer, yet sits at the center of a bar where most people gather; another guy who likes everyone-literally everyone-probably because he doesn't watch the news and doesn't know criminals exist; an old, wise cook who's an introvert and prefers to communicate more with his thumb than with his words; a woman desperate to be recognized as Bobby's (Reba McEntire) sister; and another woman who just found out she's Bobby's sister and has always wanted a big sister.
The place is run by Bobby, who controls everyone, but they like her. Basically, this show is mostly for fans of Reba McEntire. The whole show revolves around her, almost like a celebration of her. When you make something like that, you focus on that character rather than the comedy or story, although she's alright. A few jokes worked for me. I liked the feel of the show, the set, the ending of this episode and Belissa's performance as Isabelle the most. Melissa Peterman is good too-I liked her character in Young Sheldon as well.
The comedy didn't work for me, probably because it's targeted at a much younger audience. There are no adult jokes and no romantic tension (at least so far). Of the three men, one doesn't like women (or anyone) near him, one is shy around them, and the third is older than the other female characters and doesn't like to talk. 2/5.
Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage (2024)
First episode review!
Just watched the first episode, and here's my review:
Georgie, Mandy, and her parents are still fun to watch. I liked the theme song too. The comedy still works, though not as much, but it's fine. Most shows add a laugh track when they think almost every line is funny, like The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men (until season 8), which actually had funny dialogue throughout. But here, the comedy is similar to Young Sheldon, except they added a laugh track. This episode feels more like just another episode of Young Sheldon focusing on Georgie and Mandy. They've added 2-3 new characters, but they aren't likable, interesting, or funny, and that's on the writers.
In this episode, Georgie says at the start that he likes laugh tracks in shows like Frasier, and that's how they justify the laugh track in this show since it's his spinoff. When they first announced the show, I thought both Georgie and Mandy would be shown living in a new place, having moved on from their Young Sheldon life. But it's just a continuation-they're still living in Mandy's parents' house, with other Young Sheldon characters coming and going. So, is this really a new show or just another Young Sheldon episode focused on Georgie and Mandy? If they had started fresh, it could have connected better with a new audience. Also, some scenes, like Mandy fighting with her mom and planning to leave, already happened in Young Sheldon, and Georgie is still doing the same job he had there. In The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon indirectly mentioned that Georgie got married twice, and both became his ex-wives. So, we will probably see his second or even third wife on this show.
Overall: The first episode doesn't offer anything new, but it's still watchable and has some humor. It may not disappoint fans who miss Young Sheldon. For me, Young Sheldon ended on a high note, and there was no need for a direct continuation (the story seems to pick up just 2-3 months after the last episode of Young Sheldon). They should've given Georgie and Mandy a fresh start in a different city with new fun characters and a completely new setup.
The Office (2024)
Episode 1 review!
I just watched the first episode, but before that, I want to mention that I've watched over 100 TV shows, and The Office (US) is in my top 10. I found the first season average, but the second and third seasons were my favorites. I've never tried the British Office, but I liked Ricky Gervais' After Life.
Now, coming to this show, here's my review of the first episode:
Story - It's set in the office of a packaging company where the managing director, Hannah, doesn't have much of a personal life. So, she wants to hang out with the office staff and makes it mandatory for them to come to the office, stopping them from working from home, which most of them prefer.
Positives: The set feels familiar, and the camera work is similar to the US version, giving off the same vibes. The cast is good, and some characters are likable, like Nick and Greta (the new Jim and Pam). All the episodes were released at once, and each one is around 20 minutes long, with no laugh track. The episode was kinda watchable.
Negatives: The writing isn't good; there's hardly any humor. One joke goes, "I work in IT. I work in it. It, IT (So same)." If you enjoy that kind of humor, you might find this show funny.
It doesn't feel like it's set in an office but more like a school, where the students look like middle-aged people and behave childishly. Hannah (the new Michael) feels more like a primary school teacher than a director, and Lizzie (the new Dwight) comes across as the class monitor. They've shown Nick pranking Lizzie, and added romantic tension between Nick and Greta. And, of course, Greta has a boyfriend, just like Pam did in the beginning. Some of it works. But if they were copying so much, why didn't they make the HR guy more like Toby, who was boring and annoying to Michael?
Overall: Comedy-wise, it's disappointing. They removed the good elements that I loved in The Office (US), and the ones they did copy don't offer anything new. It could've been a good show because the cast is fine, but unfortunately, I didn't enjoy it. If I do end up watching the rest of the episodes, I'll update my review, but there's very little chance of that.
Sweetpea (2024)
Bingeworthy!
Just watched the first episode, and here's my review:
Positives: The first episode was watchable. The lead actress did a good job, and the ending was awesome.
Negatives: It would have been better if the episode duration was under 30 minutes, as it felt a bit slow. There are quite a few over-the-top scenes, such as the boss treating her like a suit hanger, everyone failing to notice her despite her being pretty, and her bully ruining her life to the point where she lost all her hair and now wears a wig. The backstory could have been presented better to evoke more sympathy for the lead character.
Overall, it's a decent watch. This episode serves as an introduction to her journey from victim to killer. I hope the next five episodes are more thrilling, entertaining, and realistic. Ratings: 2.5/5.
Update: Just finished the second episode, and it has gotten so much better-more thrilling, engaging, and exciting! I can't wait to see what happens next. The other characters are also looking better now. It's nice that they've shown her doing amateur things during and after the killings, which is cool. Although it would have been better if they had shown her wearing gloves at least while killing. But anyway, as long as it keeps up the entertainment, I won't care about the logic. I loved the trailer but was disappointed with the first episode. This second one, though, is truly awesome! I'll update my review after finishing it. Ratings: 3.5/5.
Update: I just finished Season 1, and I'm like, OMG! The finale episode was amazing-one scene after another, full of twists. The last cliffhanger was intense! Please renew this show. The characters are great; I want to see more of them-not just the lead, Rhiannon, but also Julia and others.
I hope they filmed Season 2 at the same time as Season 1 or that it gets the hype it deserves and is renewed ASAP because I would love to see what's coming next. After watching the trailer, I thought it would be awesome, but this level of entertainment was unexpected.
Sure, some scenes don't make sense; the killing is shown as if it's super easy. For example, when she's following someone to kill, the person never looks back or notices she's there. In many of these killer-type shows, the lead killer just kills wherever, indoors or outdoors, but no one ever checks the cameras. It's good that in this show, it's there. If you don't think too much about it, starting from the second episode, it's totally binge-worthy. If you like shows like Chucky, Dead to Me, or You, you will definitely enjoy this one.
She seems like a cute, sweet, slightly nervous girl, but every killing she did felt so real. The direction and Ella's acting made it believable. At first, I felt like the 40-minute-plus duration was too much, but after the second episode, they had so much content that this length was needed.
Overall, it's a must-watch, binge-worthy, entertaining show, though the first episode is average, and there are some illogical elements. I'd give it a 3.75/5.
Where's Wanda? (2024)
Bingeworthy!
I've now watched the first four episodes. Initially, I thought it would be another 40+ minute show I'd drop for being boring and slow, but surprisingly, it wasn't. The start of the first episode was pretty average, and I wasn't sure if I should continue or stop, but it kept getting better and even had some genuinely funny scenes in the last 20 minutes. The second episode, although longer, remained engaging and interesting without a single dull moment. The third and fourth episode were also intriguing.
Few reviewers are complaining that they don't sympathize with Wanda's character because they only saw one scene where she was acting annoyingly. They don't care enough to feel sorry for her being missing or to wonder if her parents will be able to find her, and I understand that. But, as you continue watching the episodes, you'll start to feel sympathy for the parents. They are doing much more than most parents would to find their daughter, and the brother is also doing everything he can to help. Watching them try to find her in a crazy and borderline illegal way is entertaining.
You'll enjoy it more if you don't think too logically about what's happening. For example, they're spying on people to get information on their missing daughter, but they're doing it in the most amateurish way possible-if this were real life, they'd have been caught more than five times by now.
This might be my first German show, and I'm enjoying it so far. The lead characters, Carlotta and Dedo, are really likable, and the actors playing them are fantastic. The cast, direction, writing, and intro music (Mania by Alice Merton) are all great. So far, it's an interesting watch that shows what some parents go through to find their child, with a comedic and slightly emotional touch. I'll update my review after finishing it.
Update: Just finished Season 1, and it was awesome! Every week, I waited for the new episode. The last episode was really interesting and entertaining. I was actually about to cancel my Apple Plus membership, but when I found this show, just watching the first few episodes made me renew it.
I wish there had been a complete ending, but they left it on a bit of a cliffhanger, which I don't mind. I'd love a Season 2 or 3, though I don't fully trust Apple since they've canceled good shows after just one season, like Still Up.
If what happens at the end actually happens, they might just have to change the show's title. I didn't like the tiger scene that much. Anyway, I'd still love to see more of these characters and more German shows like this. It's the best mystery drama I've seen this year-totally binge-worthy, and I'd definitely recommend it. 4/5.
Nobody Wants This (2024)
Cool vibe
Just watched the first episode, and here's my review:
Positives: The show has a cool vibe with a little bit of comedy and romantic moments, all wrapped up in under 30 minutes. The cast is good.
Negatives: The story feels unrealistic, like the writers just created characters thinking, yeah, this will look funny, let's do that. Every character seems to be given jokes so that whenever they talk, they try to say something funny. Even when Joanne (Kristen Bell) entered the room where the other lead, Noah, was, he immediately looked at her like the lead actress is here, now let's bond and make an instant connection. Joanne was confused about how a handsome, flirty guy with a short beard could be a rabbi, so she asked multiple times. Then, suddenly, they're in love and obsessed with each other. There are 9 more episodes-couldn't the writers have waited and added some romantic tension?
Overall, it's not bad or boring, but after reading some good reviews and loving Kristen Bell in The Good Place, I was expecting more. Based on the first episode, it's below average for me as I didn't find it binge-worthy or that interesting or funny. I'll still watch the second episode and hope it improves. 2/5.
Update: I just watched the second episode, and the comedy has improved a lot. Although her character Morgan is super rude, Justin Lupe adds to the comedy; she did a fine job in Home Economics too, even with the small role she had. After finding the first episode disappointing, this one surprised me, so my rating has gone up from 2/5 to 3/5. I'll watch the remaining episodes and update my review
Final update: I just finished watching all the episodes. The last three episodes were good, and I liked the ending, as well as all the characters, not just the leads. I want to see more of them, and hopefully, I will, especially after that cliffhanger-type ending. Given the good response, I think a season 2 is likely. But I still don't think it was a binge-worthy show. I was never too excited about what would happen next, but the short episodes, cast, and light comedy made it engaging. It had a cool vibe. It was also fun to see the diverse cast they hired as Joanne's friends-one Asian, one American, and one Black. That's how you make friends! The female audience will probably like it more because of the Noah character and the actor who played him. Overall, I'd give it a 3.25/5.
Midnight Family (2024)
First episode review!
Just watched the first episode, and here's my review:
Positives: The direction is good, the characters are likable, and the concept is interesting. The first episode feels very realistic, with every scene coming across naturally.
Negatives: It's too long. The first episode is over 50 minutes, and there are nine more of the same length, which feels excessive for such a simple story. The show revolves around a family of four who run a private ambulance service. They face challenges in their work, competition from other ambulances, going from the scene of emergencies to hospitals to save lives, while also dealing with personal issues. But, I didn't find anything in this episode that truly hooked me. In this episode, they reached the location of two emergency calls and saved lives. I assume the other episodes will follow a similar format-going to different locations, saving people in various settings and situations. The movie that inspired this series is about as long as just two of this show's episodes, so I don't understand why they stretched it into 10 episodes, each around 50 minutes long.
The overall tone is sad and emotional, but I think they should've added a few light or comedic moments, or at least ended the first episode with a cliffhanger to make it more engaging. The episode didn't have that kind of ending. If you compare it to Netflix's Maid (also based on a real story), Maid was emotional too but had that "what will happen next" element, which is why it became one of my favorite shows. I didn't get that feeling with this show. There's also some abusive language used which wasn't needed.
Overall: Good concept and touching story, but the long episode durations are a huge downside. It's such a big negative that I'm not sure if I'll watch the rest-I'll probably skip it. I haven't watched the documentary, so I can't compare, but I might give that a try. If you're okay with hour-long episodes, liked the trailer, and are interested in the story, you might enjoy it. For me: 2.5/5.
Penelope (2024)
First episode review!
I just watched the first episode, and here's my review:
It starts with a young girl listening to music on her headphones at an outdoor party. She sees a wolf and then a rabbit and feels that nature is calling her. She then goes to a grocery store to buy things for her escape journey, but the cashiers don't use Apple Pay. She thinks they must be from Mars or Jupiter because everyone uses Apple Pay. Even though her parents seem loving, with her mom always chatting and sending kiss emojis, she decides it's time to leave them. She turns off her location, and that's it-she's invisible and can go anywhere. She jumps on a random train, traveling illegally, and she's super happy, screaming because obviously no one will notice. She sends her parents a goodbye recording and starts her journey. She then meets a random adult singer, hangs out with him in his van-because clearly, the world is completely crime-free-and even sleeps in the van, which is obviously safe for girls like her. And this goes on.
Positives: The direction is superb, the background music and locations are good, and the young girl has done a fine job and is likable. The best part is the short duration, less than 30 minutes, as most shows nowadays are over 40 minutes. The first episode was fast-paced and not boring at all.
Negatives: The story doesn't make sense. If her parents were shown as bad or abusive, it would make sense for her to leave. But she's just leaving for fun and to explore, without any money or a place to live, and hangs out with a random guy. It just doesn't send the right message.
Overall, it's a good concept-someone leaving their regular, boring life to explore what's out there, something many have thought about. But I hope the remaining seven episodes portray it more realistically, showing the challenges, since the genre isn't fantasy. For now, I'd give it a 2/5. I'll update the review if I watch the rest of the episodes.
High Potential (2024)
Not for me
After loving Kaitlin's performance in It's Always Sunny and more recently in Hacks, I decided to try her show The Mick. I finished season 1 yesterday and enjoyed it, so I was really excited about this show. Here's my review:
I wanted to finish the full first episode before writing this, but after about 25 minutes, I stopped. I realized it's not for me. Even in the opening scene, where Kaitlin's character dances while cleaning-who loves cleaning so much that they dance while doing it? Then, during one of her hip dancing steps, she accidentally hits something and comes across a file. Her super-intelligent brain starts fixing the mistakes the FBI made in their investigation, just for fun. The FBI boss is so impressed that she requests her to help. But if she's so smart, why is she so happy doing a cleaning job? And why didn't she ask for money for helping them?
The main problem is that, in the next scenes, she's just running around finding clues. In the end, she would solve the crime. Before that, she would make excuses not to do the job, but end up doing it anyway. And of course, there is an FBI guy who hates her because of how sharp but inexperienced she is, but he will start liking her by the end of this season. She's shown as this magical crime solver who makes the FBI pee their pants with her smartness.
I don't like these kinds of shows. Even though Kaitlin looks so different from her comedy roles, everything here feels unrealistic and predictable. They should've made things more challenging for her character. Even if she's super intelligent, solving crimes should still be new for her. Watching crime documentaries doesn't make you a crime solver!
Anyway, it's not boring, but the reason it didn't feel boring to me was Kaitlin, not the writing or story. If the episodes were less than 30 minutes and made in a comedic way, I'd have probably watched it. But 40+ minutes of all this is not for me. 2/5.
Only Murders in the Building: Once Upon a Time in the West (2024)
Still Good!
Just watched the first episode of this, but before that, I want to let you know my thoughts on the previous seasons. In the first season, I only liked the last episode; the rest were average or below average. In the second season, I enjoyed all the episodes except the last one, and I fully loved the third season. So, I had high expectations for this, and here's my review of the first episode:
Positives: In the earlier seasons, the trio just comes across a dead body and starts investigating it, but this time they showed it differently, which I liked.
The writing is still sharp. I don't know how they are able to show us a new season so quickly while keeping the writing great and the show funny.
The ending was good, making you wish they had released all the episodes on the same day or at least two episodes together. But, the first episode is about 40 minutes long, so that's a positive.
I loved Eva in Land of Women and liked Eugene's character in Schitt's Creek, so I'm glad to see them in this as well. Plus, there are so many other awesome actors.
Negatives: The scenes of going to Hollywood and their first meeting with the producers and staff felt a bit nonsensical. Not just that, but many of the scenes felt unrealistic. The good part is that they show it in a funny way, so most viewers won't mind.
It's also silly that in every season, the dead person's family, friends, police, and investigation agencies don't participate much in the investigation. Only the three podcasters are shown as the best crime solvers, while the police are only good for putting people in jail after the crime is already solved. I think it will be the same in this season.
Overall: They did it again for me! My ranking till now is Season 3 > Season 2 > Season 1. I believe this time they went for more comedy than logical elements, which I personally don't mind as long as they keep it entertaining. The star-studded cast will definitely improve the experience. So far, Season 3 is better than this season quality-wise, but this season might turn out to be more entertaining. 3.5/5.
Amudo Eobsneun Supsokeseo (2024)
They should change the name of this show to 'The Snail'
Just watched the first episode, and here's my review:
Positives: The characters look interesting, the cast did a good job, and the concept seems intriguing.
Negatives: The first episode is super slow, like you could make noodles, soup, water your plants, or even take a short nap while watching it! While watching, I realized Netflix doesn't offer an option to change the playback speed, at least not on my Android smart TV. They keep playing mysterious sounds, but nothing actually happens during or after those sounds. Like many other Korean shows, each episode is about an hour long, which wouldn't be an issue if the pacing were faster. And whose idea was it to introduce a new character every few minutes? I'm already waiting for something crazy or thrilling to happen, and they keep throwing new characters at us. I mean, first do something with the so many characters you introduced earlier. Even the ending of the first episode didn't have anything to make me look forward to the next episode.
Overall: Based on the first episode, it's not a must-watch, something I would recommend, or binge-worthy. It's super slow, so only if you have patience and lots of time on your hands should you give it a try. I am skipping it.
Inside Out 2 (2024)
A Well-Deserved Blockbuster!
Just watched it, and it's really good! I had no expectations from this movie, but it surprised me. I liked the first part, but I don't even remember what happened in it-maybe because it wasn't this good. All the emotion characters they created were so well done and on point. I loved the Joy character, and at one point she dances-she's so fun to watch! I wish the nostalgia old lady character had more screen time; maybe she will in the coming sequels. I'm glad they made anxiety the villain of the story-it really is. I would have loved it if Joy had beaten anxiety with a stick, but anyway, it's a super fun, high-quality movie, maybe even better than the Toy Story franchise. It's definitely in my top 3 animated movies of all time. Every penny it earned was well-deserved. Overall, a must-watch movie! Highly recommended.
Kidnapped (2024)
Thrilling Start, But Loses Pace
I just watched the first episode. I usually point out positives and negatives when reviewing, but I don't have any negatives yet. It's already hard to find a good 30-minute show that's not a comedy but is still thrilling. The first episode literally kept me on the edge of my seat; it felt like it was happening to me. The direction and the cast's performances are so real that once you start the episode, you can't help but watch quietly. The good part is that there are only six episodes, each about half an hour long, so I think it will be fast-paced and interesting.
I made the mistake of watching this show in the morning. I should have waited until the afternoon or evening. Starting the day by watching someone get kidnapped is something I should have avoided, as it can really bring down your mood.
Update: I just finished it, and here's my review of the remaining episodes: The first three episodes were good, but the 4th and 5th episodes felt like they were dragging. They seemed slow and unnecessarily stretched, repeating the same things over and over, which is why I had to increase the playback speed to 1.5x just to get through them. But, the finale (6th episode) was good. I think four episodes or a short movie would have been enough for this story, as they didn't have enough content to justify six episodes.
Overall, it's a good watch, 2.75/5. I initially rated it 4/5 after the first episode, but the unnecessary stretching to make it a six-episode show downgraded the experience.
Daddy Issues (2024)
What did I just watch?
Just watched the first episode of this show and here's my review:
Positives:
I could watch the first episode, which means it was watchable. The main reason was Aimee Lou.
The episodes are short and there are only six in total.
Negatives:
I'm confused about what I watched. Everything felt random. First, they showed Aimee with a guy I thought was the main lead. Then another guy appeared who I thought would be the lead. Later, she liked another guy who might return. After that, they introduced the remaining characters one by one.
Meet the dad who pees in a jar, meet his short-tempered friend, now let's see what her prison sister is doing, now let's meet the rude mom. It was all Aimee going here and there, introducing the show's characters to the audience. Although she had a purpose, something about the way it was presented felt a bit off and random.
The show tried to be funny, and maybe one or two jokes worked, like the jacket potato one.
Based on the first episode, they didn't explore the daddy issues, but maybe they will later.
I iked Aimee in Sex Education. That's the only reason I tried this show. She's fun to watch. Other than that, it's watchable; I didn't get bored. I think I might be able to finish the season because it's short, with only a few episodes. It's not binge-worthy, a must-watch, or something I'd recommend. The show looks low-budget. I'm not sure what to expect from the remaining episodes, but if you like British shows and Aimee, you might want to give it a try.
Update: I tried to watch the second episode but couldn't, so I've decided to skip this show. 1.75/5.
Dinner with the Parents (2024)
Ignore the negative reviews!
I think some big fans of the BBC show Friday Night Dinner are intentionally rating it low and posting negative reviews. I don't think they've given it a fair chance. Before watching this show, I tried the original BBC show, because I like British shows and have many favorites. But, even after trying twice, I couldn't watch it for more than 3-4 minutes.
So, I gave this show a try, and I was hooked within five minutes. I loved all the characters, and the actors did a great job. The comedy, romantic tension, and comedic situations all worked well. I liked the way the Nana character spoke; I'm not sure if it was intentional or if she really talks like that.
Overall, it's a must-watch family drama that you can definitely enjoy with your family and deserves a season two renewal. 3.5/5.
The Decameron (2024)
WILD!
Just finished watching all the episodes, and here's my review:
Positives:
A super crazy, binge-worthy historical drama. When I saw that the first episode was about an hour long, I almost wanted to quit. But not a single scene was boring, and the same goes for the rest of the episodes. The show is highly entertaining with very few slow scenes that won't ruin your experience. After the first episode, I stopped checking the duration because I was enjoying it. The direction, the writing, the cast, the background music, the location, and the story all of it worked well.
No character is safe in this show, which I love. I enjoy shows where they kill off some or many lead characters because it keeps you engaged and interested in seeing who will survive until the end.
The cast did an amazing job. I love many of the characters, especially Filomena and Neifile, who were my favorites. Even though it's currently a limited series, I'd love for the show to continue for at least three seasons or more..
The final episode includes a really dark scene that I wasn't expecting. The overall ending was superb and satisfying, avoiding the usual cliffhanger tactic to force a network renewal.
The ratings are currently a bit low, but please give it atleast 10-15 minutes of your time before judging the show based on these ratings and skipping it.
Negatives:
Although I don't mind nudity and intimate scenes, some of it felt a bit unnecessary. Almost everyone is involved, including straight people, gays, lesbians, and even rats in the intro. But, this doesn't impact the overall experience much.
The final battle could have been more interesting and thrilling, keeping us on the edge. Instead, it was made more casual.
They could have explored the black deaths happening during the pandemic a bit more. The show mainly focuses on those who are not affected, so it doesn't feel like it's set during a pandemic. The focus is more on, poisonous deaths, revenge, and battle rather than the disease.
Overall: This is a must-watch and super binge-worthy show. I hope it gets the hype it deserves, with popular leads from hit shows like Sex Education and Derry Girls. It's on Netflix and is one of the best comedy period dramas. It may not be as good as The Great, but fans of that show might also enjoy this one. Rating: 3.75/5.
Time Bandits (2024)
Fun!
First and second episode review: I didn't find the trailer too interesting, so I wasn't really excited to watch this show. But because of Lisa Kudrow, the adventure genre, and it being an Apple TV Plus comedy show, I decided to give it a try.
To be honest, at the beginning, it seemed kind of normal. I thought about skipping it after 20 minutes because it felt childish, average, and predictable. But as I continued watching, I really started to like it. I watched both episodes. The duration is fine, although I usually prefer comedy shows that are a bit shorter. This is the first adventure genre show I've watched, and I really enjoyed it. There were some nice jokes, and the show has a cool vibe. The cast is awesome, especially the young kid, who is a really good actor, and Lisa Kudrow, who is still amazing. I loved the visuals, the feel of the show, and the little bit of history lessons. I haven't watched the 1981 movie, but I don't think I need to since I'll be watching the remaining episodes. I would have liked the show even more if there was some romantic tension and if the episodes were less than 30 minutes. Also, it would have been better if all the episodes were released at once, but two episodes a week is also fine.
Overall, it's a nice, fun watch. This show might not be for everyone but it's definitely for me as I too would love to escape the reality. 3/5.
Update: I just finished watching all the episodes, and my ratings remain the same. If you don't think too logically, you might enjoy it. Kids will probably like it more. The ending is not predictable, which is good, although they ended it on a cliffhanger, likely aiming for a season 2 renewal. I'm not sure if a season 2 is necessary, but if it happens, I will watch it.
