The 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago was totally upstaged by the events outside of its venue. Thousands of Vietnam War protestors were met by the Chicago Police Department in what turned into a bloody disaster. When Nixon took office in 1969, John Mitchell (played by John Doman), the new Attorney General, decided that he would make an example of the organizers of the protests.
He singled out Tom Hayden (played by Eddie Redmayne), Rennie Davis (played by Alex Sharp), Abbie Hoffman (played by Sacha Baron Cohen), Jerry Rubin (played by Jeremy Strong), David Dellinger (played by John Carroll Lynch), Bobby Seale (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), Jon Froines (played by Danny Flaherty), and Lee Weiner (played by Noah Robbins). These eight were trimmed down to seven when Bobby Seale was dropped from the trial due to lack of legal representation.
"The Trial of the Chicago 7" shows as much of what was pertinent as possible considering that from the time of the DNC protest until the conclusion of the trial was over a year. It's an important moment in American history and it was a moment that typified the '60's which was full of SO many important historical moments. It was a well acted, well written, and well directed movie. I'm glad I took the time to watch it.
Netflix.

"The Bad Guys" followed up, what I thought was an excellent movie, with an equally good, if not better movie.
Wolf (Sam Rockwell), Snake (Marc Maron), Tarantula (Awkwafina), Shark (Craig Robinson), and Piranha (Anthony Ramos) are all trying to survive in their new life as good guys and it's not going well. They are so stigmatized that no one will give them a chance at proving that they are no longer bad. When a string of burglaries happen Wolf sees the opportunity to prove their worth: they will help nab the perp, except things don't go quite how he planned.
TBG2 was funnier and even more creative than the first. Writers Yoni Brenner, Etan Cohen, and Aaron Blabey put the smack down on this one. There were new characters, fresh dialogue, and original situations. I loved it, my nephews were bonkers about it. Win win.
