I just rewatched both gremlins movies and both still hold up. But while the first got a higher rating this one seems to be overlooked and underrated. Its certainly different than the first one. Less horror movie and a little more chaos comedy. And thats actually a good thing. There is total anarchy going on everywhere. A real fun ride to watch. It also makes fun of itself and doesn't completely repeat the formula of the first movie but really adds to the whole franchise. I loved this movie when i was a kid, i still love it today. Unfortunately there are not many opportunities to watch those great 80s movie today. But if you are in luck and your streaming service is showing gremlins. Watch it!

Half though the movie i thought it was a little underrated. Not great but not as bad as its ratings. All ingredients for a Coen Movie are there. Well, almost. Something was missing. The first hour is pretty much two different movies spliced together. One is a love story. The other is rat race about finding some objects. Those two movies come together in the final 15-20 minutes and thats when things go bad. Up to this point i would give the movie a solid 6.5. I had fun watching. But now it felt like they run out of ideas. They rushed to the finish line and gave us a conclusion that was predictable and boring. So it brought my rating down to a solid 5. At least the movie is rather short. You only waste 80 minutes of your time :-D.

I love ghostbusters since i've seen part 2 at the movies as a kid. I had to wait 30 years for a good sequel. Afterlife was really good and got the franchise into the present day. I did't expect another sequel so soon but i'm happy they did. And i enjoyed the movie. It had a great cast. They played their characters perfectly. That a good baseline to create a good movie. Unfortunately they made some mistakes along the way. The biggest is probably that they got too many characters here. They should have cut out two or thee of them completely and others should have gotten less or no screen time in the last act. That would have given that movie a much clearer focus. Another thing is repeating certain plot points from other ghostbusters movies. Those are fun of course but i want so see new stuff and no fan service. The last issue is with the old gang. I love them. Always great to see them. But they are only in the movie as a gimmick. They didn't do anything important. If you cut them out it would still work as a movie and you might only loose 5 minutes or so. Either give them more screen time and/or make them do more important stuff thats relevant to the outcome of the movie. Or leave them out of it.
Apart from those issues the movie is still pretty good. My honest rating would be a 6.6.
