I couldn't get enough of this documentary. When I sat down the hours past easily listening to the creators opinions of their own works and sometimes others or just a commentary on the horror genre in general. It was all very enjoyable.
As a fan of 80's horror's I often read the trivia section on the movies here at IMDB but hearing these things vocally adds depth to the things you read. There's just so much for these guys to cover about the only thing missing was a more worldly view on horror but the US contributed an immense amount to horror post hammer period that its understandable that the majority of time would go to US made horrors.
Lessons learnt though, if you make a sequel stick to the formula. If you want to shoot left then call it something else. It was also good to hear them talking about the importance of music also. So much great work done there that I think it often gets over looked in many a reviews that I've read anyhow.
Looking forward to watching parts II and III. Thoroughly enjoyable documentary, 2 thumbs up.

The music was okay and the directing was good enough but everything else felt deadpan mediocre. Like when a friend wants to hang out on your only day off and all you want to do is nothing, that's how the acting felt in Asher. No one really wanted to be there but they turned up and took the check because that's what you do when people throw money in your face.
The truth is that Asher has a gawd awful plot with no twists to speak of, not even a slight bend in the road. What drove me down from giving this movie a higher rating was the constant flaws in the logic behind so many actions in the movie. The best example would have to be when Asher kills someone sent to kill him and his girlfriend at his safehouse cabin which somehow translates into the cabin now being a safe place to wait it out. Like you just killed an assassin practically on your doorstep and its now a safe place. Asher is categorically and definitively a dumb movie.

The problem with anthologies is that there's always going to be a story that hogs up too much time and doesn't live up to the rest of them. The first half of the movie felt like that for me then it picked up once we hit Fun Size which is almost as good as the over-arching story of the poltergeist infused soda drink Phantasma which was a really good story.
V/H/S Halloween felt just right on the gore for me, I don't think it was over or under done. Ultimately it's worth the watch with as many good points as bad and is also appropriately rated. I would have given it a 5 or 6, if I see it again I might change it to a 6. A good entry into the V/H/S series.
