Akoni is a gem indie film which shines a light on the refugee experience. It crosses borders and cultures and adds a colourful romantic story between an Australian Girl and an African Man. It also delves into the psychology of Western privilege... The story and characters are nuanced, conveyimg depth and emotion. It takes us on the journey effortlessly with style and tone. The writing, directing and editing is fresh and engaging, continually keeping you glued to the screen. The sound design and score is pitch perfect, dramatic and emotive adding to the overall message. The one thing that stood out in the film is it's message of kindness. Highly recommended.
A gripping and absorbing drama. Performances are sublime and riveting. The storytelling is nuanced and captivating. Even though we know the true crime that existed in Australia, it still leaves you guessing at every twist and turn... Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris appeared to be in their roles rather than play them. It was uncanny the resemblance and behaviour of Sean Harris to the real perpetrator of the crime. It was like seeing the real figure on screen. He was just extraordinary and should win an award for his performance as should the director and others. The music was pounding and engaging, heightening the drama on all levels. This is 5 star movie and 10 star IMDb one.
Originality with experimental origins makes this film a must see. Has all the qualities of a break out release for future productions of this genre. The filmmakers have intentionally taken subject matter we often see and have told it in a non linear fashion. It uses narration and imaging to convey it's message to the audience. The Editing is superb and engaging. Even though it runs for a little over 30 minutes it still keeps you absorbed in the drama. Six hundred characters for a review is too long, I think what I've written is enough to convey the message about this film. It still asks me to write more even after clicking submit with I think is... Anyway the filmmakers have a great future ahead of them. Looking forward to see the next installment.
