I'm now starting the 4th 1/4 of my life but have little that I think is worth sharing with others.
I always enjoyed movies, perhaps escapism. My favourite films are films with interesting characters and interesting stories which is not very descriptive since what I find interesting may not be to others. None the less I also derived a lot of pleasure with some action or comedy movies.
For a few years now my hearing has increasingly declined in quality so I'm more likely to see foreign films with subtitles.
I usually only worry about actors and am oblivious of other people who made a film.
Some of my favourite actors would be Burton,Newman, Redford, De Niro, Eastwood, Hackman, Caine, hoffman, Al pacino, o'toole, Poitier, Connery, Cruise, Crowe, Dicaprio, Douglas x2, Duval, Freeman, Guinness, Hank, E harris...I give up there are too many and I hardly started on the ladies.
I'll just end with my distaste to give rating / stars but I seem to feel this is a request now from IMDB so I'll give 5/10 indiscriminately so everyone and I first will be happy.
...Reading this during the Pandemic Sept. 2021 I can see a few things have changed.
The rating is not compulsory amongst them. I also notice that I did not mention any female actress and this is not deliberate at all, I guess I had already quoted too many name and realise it was pointless to continue. I would like to add that in Australia we're catching with the rest with many way to obtain so many movies to watch on TV. We also have a broadcasting station called SBS (I think Special Broadcasting Services) due to the influx of people from other countries and culture background. One of his divisions is SBS Movies World and we do get some international gems from this. Unfortunately for my wife and I they are not all with captions.

Forgive me for this inappropriate tittle, but I couldn't resist the temptation. Well, I think the English title is just as bad. A Unionist would have fit the bill IMHO.

Now, I loved this movie and a fact it was inspired by true events.

I also love that young actress. At times her acting reminded me of an older actress whom I couldn't remember the name. I found the story compelling and tried to convince myself it was a work of fiction to keep enjoying it.

Then I remembered which actress I was reminded of; it was Isabelle Hupper. And why was that? Because that who it was!

  • David Jason, Robert Glenister you've got my silent vote!

Oh, I love Frosty! We've been watching our 3 prefered Whodunit shows; (Vera, Gently, and Frosty) for years and many times the same ones!

Thanx to our failing memory it's often almost like watching them for the first time again!

I was strugling to recover these two episodes featuring Robert Glenister (As Terrence Reid) Asking AI, saying it was about a DC Sergeant having had some award in combat and falling out of grace... AI came up with "Soldiers"! Unable to recognise that actor in it I kept going at it and found it in "Benefit of the doubt Part 1 & 2.

I enjoyed these episodes very much. I love the special human relationship 'Terry' had with 'Frost', yet both remain professional. Frost, like Vera have peculiar ethical standards beside their professionalism; Unlike Gently who's ... Very different than M Shaw in 'Juge John Deed' (That I stopped watching once I saw him in Gently... I never mix 'savouries' and 'desserts'!)

  • Less than I hoped

I learned to love Daniel Auteuil starting with Jean de Florette. So I was quite keen to see this one.

I see here 6 reviews and I deduct from it that this film has not really created something that you'd never forget.

4 of us all over 70 (and the rest for some) had problems to keep awake during its early part.

However I did derive some interest from it as it went.

But something annoyed me a little about it. The writen information of it seemed to differ as they gave different versions like of what was to come. I thought the main character was a defence layer who felt bad having had a case where he let a guilty client go free, so became a prosecutor, but later a friend of his got him to take his defence... The other annoying thing about it is that It supposes to be based on a true event. But I could not find any information about this true event. I would have appreciated to see how, if any, liberty had been taken with the fiction. I can't see the point of telling us that it's based on true event if we can not find anything about the real story.

I was also a littel amuse to read some study about it that mentioned "Le Fils" This spelling becomes 'The son' because it is a quirk of the language. The S is silent so it sounds just like The fil when it is pronounced but Le Fils is not the thread!
