This MGM animated short directed by Hugh Harman was nominated for an Oscar.
It was released on the eve of Europe entering World War Two but not yet America.
If the cartoon was released later, maybe the message would had been different.
However with animators who were veterans of World War One. This has an anti war message.
In a post apocalyptic world. Two young squirrels ask their grandfather about men. They heard it from the Christmas carol: 'Peace on Earth, good will to men.'
The grandfather tells them that men became extinct by fighting wars with ever more dangerous weapons.
In its place the animals took over. Building a new world from the devices of war.
This is an early example of a cartoon with a serious message. Despite the festive setting, it has some sombre and darker moments.

DCI Richard Murphy interrogates Philip Ormand. He had Edie Ledwell's phone. He ran Sam Barclay off the road. He has certainly looked shifty.
Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott watch the interrogation but it looks like Philip is not Anomie.
To narrow down the list of suspects Strike might have to attend the Comic Con in a costume Maybe the Black Heart Stand could have answers.
It seems like a good call as it leads to danger on a train platform. They certainly have drawn out someone in the open.
It also means Robin might have placed herself in danger.
Once again there is something unsatisfactory about this episode. It feels muddled and overlog for the sake of it.

Ivor Stocker (Joss Ackland) is a successful businessman. A justice of the peace and a pillar of the community.
He is also a widower with a grown up daughter. He lives with his sister who wants Ivor to go out with a respectable middle aged woman.
Instead Ivor is going out with June Stafford (Judy Loe) a high class escort.
They plan to marry but Ivor is being blackmailed over some racy photos he took of June.
He goes to DCI Russell for advice who tells Ivor off the record to pay the ransom and hope it all goes away. Only to get another ransom demand.
Maggie Forbes needs to find out if June is involved in the blackmail case.
A simple story where you think June is not as sweet as she makes out to be. So you are hoping for a twist of some sorts. It kind of works and has a bittersweet ending for Ivor.
