Sadly, the first more than an hour was pretty humdrum for me. Quite disappointed. Not exactly sure what was amiss, best I can describe is trying too hard with too much at once with too much going on. Quirky characters, sure, but many in ways that were not all that funny, nor as politically correct as they wanted to flaunt themselves to be- to everyone but their own true selves!
One selling point for this film was the packed cast- both newcomers and long time industry legends included (Many graduates from The Groundlings, which probably is no coincidence)- but overbrimming with talent does not necessarily equate to being better, nor a successful final product. Case in point, most of the cast had barely enough time to show their faces or say one line before the camera was on its way to the next pretty face. Starring as Amy's parents, Lisa Kudrow & Will Forte were probably my favorites and given how good they were in the short time audiences were given, should have been given much more! About to throw in the towel, when the last thirty minutes did its redeeming. Beautiful ending. Extra bonus points for the credits scenes. Craving nostalgia? Wait for those freeze frame water balloon bursts and some sauce Polaroids! Waiting for another directorial success from the still very young Olivia Wilde.

Much more often than not, I love me my slow, subtle, it is all in the details, sweet elegaic poem of a film. "Remember Every Night", however, fell short of the mark, not even really fitting the definition in my opinion, although others seem to disagree. The score is an extremely interesting choice that could have gone either way for the director. Being no expert, the only analogy that comes to mind is a video game. Quirky, unexpected.
As for the overall film? Too slow in my opinion. More significantly, there was very little reward for it. I would not have minded, had there been something meaningful to be gained from it all, but there was not much. These ladies' days ended. As sighingly as they began. Yes, it is somewhat cozying, soothing to watch these everyday activities, their humdrum lives, but it is lacking so much, with too much empty space in between that other films have found ways to fill with something far more fulfilling.
