I remember watching this classic programme on ITV a British Television in the late 1980s and found it very entertaining and Fun. Rover cars during the era done an advertisement based on the series.
The programme is loosely based on a classic 1940s comic called "Batman" but deviates from the serious original by making it offbeat and tongue in cheek especially the music and graphics.
The Key criminals such as the Joker are eccentric people as opposed to Psychopaths or other complications the original comic antagonists had making it interesting, intriguing and a very good adaption from the comic for a family audience and Children's entertainment.
But for arguments sake critics and Orthodox comic book followers are critical of this light hearted approach and as an alternative for the era it was done it could off been the American equivalent of The British series The Avengers in costumes with Batman and Cat woman.
One awkward issue with the series that relates to the above statement having a mature man and an adopted boy live together fighting crime does raise sexual suspicion, which is why cat woman would have been better as a partner. Her relationship with Batman in the original comics is more ambiguous keeping to its origins.

.... 25 years too late and the amount of sequels has corrupted the original concept exhausting the brand to death, which is the main reason I think it lasted for 1 season.
However let us start to talk why it is better. It is not solely for the special effects which with modern technology has made the stunts more authentic The Ford Mustang also whilst being a sports car has a formal rather than a juvenile look of the original Pontiac Firebird a now defunct subsidiary of the slimmed down General Motors.
Though in the 1980s I think the Mustang and it's twin the Escort were better options then General Motors.
The characters and cast especially the lead are better in that they are more mature, believable and the series can be taken seriously as a crime drama.
The storylines this time are better written and suited to both the crime criteria, government work and how advanced technology can help in this field not the cheesy soap opera stories of the original which tarnished it.
The gadgetry and presentation is better thought out and more relevant it is not over the top trying to impress you.
The only complaint I have is that there are too many characters which should have been kept to a minimum.
The reason why it lasted for a season is that the franchise was done to death let it rest in peace as Television history and move on - also if you have an original idea do the original - right - first time no second chances an amalgamation perhaps of the sequels and offshoots would of been better then the classic that unfortunately it can't replace.

I remember this when it aired in Britain in the mid 1990s on ITV. It was something enjoyable and entertaining to watch when children's television was in decline, despite this series being cheesy it was fun. The producers decided to copy Japanese ideas and adapt it for a universal audience.
The lead characters are a bunch of well cast popular but dedicated and dynamic students who are chosen by some mysterious force for good to defend earth from a group of aliens lead by an evil witch that can grow in height. With their different strengths, powers and talents they overcome the Alien invaders.
When the Alien overgrows they resort to Dinosaur machines to take it on and defeat it. It's simple but effective and it was entertaining, fun with a great cast, music and popular at the time during it's height in the mid 1990s it brings back great memories when you were entertained to pass the time, filled a void in entertainment and greatly contributed to the decade and television history.
I found especially Bulk and Skull the clownish duo funny and I must admit the actress who played the Pink Ranger (Amy Johnson) I found her attractive in and out of uniform.
My advice is tick to the original series, the first two seasons only and avoid the sequels, offshoots and remakes which are a waste of film and has tarnished the original.
My few criticisms are is that it should of been a direct adaption from the Japanese series on which it was based found in the trivia, the green ranger should of been temporary or not included - he complicated everything and the theme of the series like the original source should of had a beginning, middle and an end lasting 2 seasons (1993-95). Perhaps it would be remembered more with fondness and a better 1990s icon.
