Bas Ek Pal (2006)
Something different
Surprisingly, this movie was better than what I expected. Very complex subject to deal with, but the director never loose control over the narration. I enjoyed this movie, I did neither find it slow nor boring but an engrossing experience! Each characters are distinct and etched out very well, which is not so common in a bollywood movie. It's mostly about finding and following one's love, and it beautifully comes to a full circle, where all the 5 main protagonists are connected to each other. There are every possible emotions that a human being can get identified with, it deals with compassion, anger, love, lust and jealousy.
Watch this movie, if you like some serious stuff. Performances are good, especially Juhi as Ira and Sanjay as Nikhil stand out. My rating 9 is for unusual story line, some great acting and, to the director for making an effort to be different.
Head On (1998)
Simpl y Wonderful
Clearly this movie is not for everyone. If you are not able to identify with the characters, the whole thing will just fall flat.
I felt it's a very honest attempt and with sincere performances. The main protagonist of the movie carries the entire movie on his shoulders with such an ease.
This movie does not give any message nor judges anyone...I felt like I got a glimpse of what's going in the few people's life.
The mood is dark, but it's entertaining. Kudos to the entire cast, director, writer and producer for giving us this movie.
I am giving 10 for this movie.
A Home at the End of the World (2004)
Gem of a movie
I have not read the book, but I enjoyed the every bit of this movie. The tag line "family can be what ever you wanted to be" says it all.
A complex theme, narrated in a very effective way which is supported by excellent performances. I became a huge fan of Colin Farrell after seeing this master piece. It makes you to laugh, cry, love and hate. It works in all levels: story, screenplay, acting and music. Colin's character, is a delight to watch. I was like a 100 % satisfied customer, after watching this movie!!
I felt each and every emotions of characters. Watch this gem, you will know what I mean. Watched it twice back to back !!
36 China Town (2006)
Johnny Lever and Paresh are Superb!!!!
Never had any expectations from this movie. Abbas-Mustan are the directors who have taken full responsibility to remake all the Hollywood movies in to Bollywood. Originality is alien to them. Remember Aitraz (Disclosure), Daraar (sleeping with the enemy), Baadshah (Nick of time)etc.. ?? I gave in to the force of my friends to watch this flick. As expected it's not a brilliant movie. Surprisingly, it succeeded in evoking few good laughs here and there. It is stylish and performance are up to the mark. Johnny Lever and Paresh Rawal are superb!!. Just watch the movie for them (Vote 7/10 is just for them). Finally, I was not able to figure out, from which Hollywood flick, was this inspired..any guesses??
Fanaa (2006)
Kunal Could have done something simply wonderful
I decided to watch 'fanaa' for two reasons. One it was directed by Kunal Kohli, who handled 'Hum Tum', with such a maturity, especially towards the end of the movie. Secondly, the unusual pairing of Aamir Khan and Kajol.
Well does the movie work ? Let me think...Kajol looked stunning and I thought kid Rehaan was cute. Thats all.
Chemistry between Aamir and Kajol is good. But one cannot feel the love and romance between them. The fault lies in the execution. It fails to invoke any sympathy for Kajol or Aamir when destiny separates them. Pre interval there is nothing but songs. Post interval is predictable. It holds the audience for sometime, but not for too long. Climax, everyone's guess would be my guess!!
I lost the interest in seeing the movie at the first half itself. Can you imagine, hearing 'shayari' for every passing second ? and hamming the same dialogue for every passing reel ? Except for two songs, duo Jatin Lalit disappoints. The song "chand sifarish" in the movie, does not live up to the expectations. It could have been done more beautifully and subtly, with the expressive eyes of Kajol and immaculate Aamir. The song is utterly wasted by making it an mundane bollywood affair.
I felt its just the hype, minus Kajol and Aamir, this movie is not even worth of thinking to see it. Kunal could have done something simply wonderful, he had the best of everything.
