I know I'm in the minority, but I found this a let-down after all the hype. Episode 1 was promising, though I didn't understand why the police had to go full Fascist and break the door down to arrest a 13 year-old boy, and Ashley Waters showing off his muscles isn't my idea of a DI. Episode 2, set in Jamie's school, went downhill. The kids were enough to make you despair of this country's future and I could have done without all the stuff between the DI and his son. After 10 minutes of the psychologist in episode 3 we gave up. A pity, as the topic is important while the acting and camerawork were first-rate.
BTW, there's nothing new about each episode being filmed in a single take. In his 2002 film Russian Ark Alexander Sukurov took the audience through the Hermitage, and the history of Russia, in a single take.

I have to agree with all the negative comments about the pathetic ending, people's ridiculous behaviour etc., and won't rehash them. A few thoughts;
Why did they make Allen Leech's character have a relationship with a rent boy? That's no way to treat that nice young man from "Downton Abbey."
The man exposed at the end as perpetrator of the kidnappings our hero and heroine investigate can't have been the killer of our heroine's mother, as he doesn't look much older than India Mullen. Yet the suggestion is that he was (same all black outfit, same voice.) How did such a psycho manage to restrain himself for so many years?
I see Imogen Murphy directed the first 5 episodes but not the last. I imagine she read the script for episode 6 and thought " I'm not putting my name on that rubbish." There were compensations in the acting, Ireland's scenery and some beautiful actresses. One of them played the wife of the corrupt and repulsive Superintendent: yuk.
