Very atmospheric episode, thanks to Oscar nominee Christian Nyby. Nyby gained fame for directing THE THING. Talk about creepy atmosphere.
Nice to change locations, a getaway from the city, the story beginning with Perry and Paul on a cool boat, spending some off time deep sea fishing. Amazingly, they encounter a beautiful blonde called Sally (Peggie Castle) who happens to have in her possesion an incriminating note -- in a bottle?
David Lewis (known for BATMAN) plays George Alder, the gentleman in question, suspected of killing his wealthy aunt. The note tells the grim story. A fascinating switch, certainly an original story. And yes, I agree with the last reviewer, Perry and Paul should have went on more fishing expeditions. Next a guy with a bottle?
Good support from James Griffith, playing Arthur, who sort of looks like a 50s beatnik. Comedian Connie Cezon plays Perry's receptionist, Gertie. She would turn up every so often in this role. Her claim to fame was working as a stand-in for Bette Davis. Also known for her wild appearances with the THREE STOOGES.
True, Perry could have gotten disbarred for this case, and there were many others to come. That's the fun of this show, add a generous slice of lawyerly poetic license. If you're a western fan, Peggie Castle would go on to co-star in the LAWMAN tv series.
Catch the scene where Paul downs too much HOT Mexicali food. LOTS of water.
SEASON 1 EPISODE 12 remastered dvd box set. Volumes 1 and 2. Classic first season set.

Why Don Knotts was such an unforgettable member of this classic show. Bill Idelson, known GOMER PYLE, cleverly built this story all around him.
Tol Avery, a staple in sitcoms, plays Mr. Weaver, who claims merchandise has been disappearing from his store. Someone is stealing him blind, but who can it be? Andy and Barney are called on the case, and you know Barney has some interesting plans. The most laugh out loud is for him to dress up as a store dummy, complete with cap and hunting outfit? Don Knott's expressions are absolutely priceless, and that cap is soooo right for him. Catch the dialogue, especially two lady customers who poke fun at him.
This story may have inspired some similarly wild stuff on MY FAVORITE MARTIAN, about a year later. Uncle Martin accidentally transforms himself into a department store dummy, then Mrs. Brown. The mannequin routine never grows old, even for martians.
Look for Mary Lansing, usually playing Emmett's wife, as a customer. Mary played a variety of different roles on the show, and actually held a record. Veteran actress Lurene Tuttle has a great bit. Best line department; Andy claims he knew who it was right off the bat because he bumped into someone who "clanged". No, we won't tell you who. Wait and see.
Watch this for Don Knotts. SEASON 4 remastered dvd box set. 5 dvds. Released 2007 and 2015.

Another camp episode all us kids loved. Rob getting mixed up with a bum, but a sly one.
Short and sweet. Rob, working all night on a tough script, accidentally leaves the darn thing en route home at Grand Central Station. The phone rings the next day from a man of "no means" who wants to do an exchange. Biggest mistake -- Rob tells him how grateful he is because the script is worth its weight in gold. The asking price jumps from 25 bucks to 2500. What a con!
This is where the story goes nuts, thanks to writer Garry Marshall. Marshall, who created HAPPY DAYS, was good with offbeat characterizations. Rob goes to the "meeting place" to confront the bum (Gene Baylos), but confusing him with another, and gets himself into even more trouble. If you've followed this sitcom, you know it would work that way, because it would be too easy the other way. Right? Watching Dick Van Dyke's astounded expressions are the whole show.
Comedian Herbie Faye, the lost and found guy, is a hoot, the perfect role for him with some of the best lines. Gene Baylos (billed as Bum #1!), may have landed this part for a goofy role he played on CAR 54, WHERE ARE YOU. He played an excon called Backdoor Benny. Gene was a natural.
Another must see, especially for the classic comedy writing of Garry Marshall. SEASON 4 EPISODE 15 remastered. Thanks METV for running all these wacky episodes, even in black and white.
