Why we love HAWAIIAN EYE. One of the more high-octane and graphic episodes, terrifically directed by Robert Sparr, who we lost too soon.
Two million dollars is stolen from an armored car just before it reaches the bank. The catch is Tom, Greg and Mokie were the only ones who knew about the secret route. Did someone talk or are the thieves more clever than H. E. expected? A caper of capers defined, plus a larger role for Mokie, allowing Douglas Mossman to show off his talent and gun-toting skills. Necessary roughness.
Excellent role for Van Williams, fresh from BOURBON STREET BEAT and SURFSIDE 6, soon to be the GREEN HORNET. In fact, the entire cast shines, right down to bit roles. Pre-MISSION IMPOSSIBLE star Barbara Bain plays Williams' wife (Anne), also Karen Sharpe in a dramatic part. Sharpe went onto marry producer and director Stanley Kramer. Look quick for Bob Jellison (Bobby the bellhop) who frequently appeared on I LOVE LUCY.
Sparr stages one of the very best armored car robberies ever. The thieves wearing masks come off a bit creepy too, tossing smoke bombs everywhere and making for a clean getaway. Fun to spot the familiar buildings on the Warner Brothers lot in the smokey background. Additionally, the lie detector sequence is reminiscent of DRAGNET.
This noir-ish like thriller moves and grooves. Tribute to Mossman, who passed in 2021. Later a frequent guest star on HAWAII FIVE O. A few years before his sudden death, Sparr reunited with Robert Conrad and worked with him on WILD, WILD WEST. He also directed 77SS and RAT PATROL.
The best of SEASON 4 EPISODE 20 remastered. Some of the WB box sets were remastered in Europe and may not play on American made dvd players. Always check with the seller and inquire about Region 2 playback. Thanks to METV for the memories.

Love the title, direct from the Erle Stanley Gardner book of catchy tag lines.
See this for Oscar nominee Brian Donlevy, an unforgettable actor (BEAU GESTE), in one of his final roles before retiring. Appropriately enough, he plays a distinguished general who is named to an anti-crime committee amid lots of publicity. Then comes a little tidbit concerning his wife -- photographed with one of his colleagues in a not too flattering situation. Good Grief.
All roads lead to slickster mobster Ted de Corsia (Emory), obviously it's "pay off" time for the general, who does confront him, while he's alive. Not long after the general leaves, Emory is murdered, you can guess the rest and Perry has his work cut out for him.
Simple story, however, very entertaining and applause for Donlevy, turning on the dramatics. Following this episode he co-starred with several western veterans in ARIZONA BUSHBACKERS. The debit is Ted de Corsia didn't have more screen time, dean of bad guys, fondly remembered for THE ENFORCER opposite Humphrey Bogart. Simon Scott (Stacy) guest stars.
Written by Robert E. Kent, author of several cult films, DIARY OF A MADMAN (Vincent Price) at the top of the list.
SEASON 9 EPISODE 28 remastered CBS dvd box set. Volumes 1 and 2. Thanks to METV for running these whodunits twice daily.

Another signature performance by Leonard Nimoy, and although we all missed Martin Landau, he did justice to his role. He had a following with this series. More over, with producer Barry Crane directing, you could count on some slick surprises along the way. Also catch the camera work.
Paris plays an American businessman of means who attacts the attention of Latin American revolutionary Siomney (Lou Antonio), who has him kidnapped and held in exchange for the release of three of his ace commandos. Paris pulls an old Martin Landau trick, pretending to be ill, requiring immediate medical help. Right on contact, the IMF team parachutes in aid with a tracking device, again faking out the fakers.
A lively duel between Nimoy and Antonio, likewise a master of characterizations. Lou became an established tv director; PARTRIDGE FAMILY, McMILLON AND WIFE, etc. Joe De Santis joins the cast (as Jorge), another smart casting choice for this tense standoff.
I agree with the last reviewer, Lesley Ann Warren does a fine job here, again thanks to Barry Crane. She had some meaty roles during her one year tenure with the show, and worked well opposite Peter Graves. Any actress replacing Barbara Bain came with lots of critical feedback, including Lee Meriwether. An awkward time for the series, however with the likes of Barry Crane, the show forged ahead to which you have to give credit.
9 Stars for the star power. SEASON 5 EPISODE 13 remastered CBS/Paramount dvd box set. A sleek cover with Peter Graves and Lesley Ann Warren.
