L. Fabry grew up in Houston, TX where she spent her time watching the “Muppet Babies and reading awesome books. Soon after her thoughts went something like: “That was great! But what if they did this? A writer was born. At the age of 12 she had already written and self-published (by hand) over 10 exciting short stories, printed (by hand) several editions of her own newspaper, and staged a Western at a local theater about a cowboy named Tex. Despite a dry spell in the rebellious teen years, Lilia left an affluent student career in business to return to her first love. She graduated from the University of Houston with a writing degree and was astounded by the talent of the faculty and her peers. Throughout her various careers, including grant writer, waitress, bank clerk, bartender, and currently freelance fanatic, she has remained true to her first love.

Current works include “Ordinance 93, a novel set in the future where it is forbidden to have a baby without permission. The first four people to break it are a man and three women who go on the run to escape the law and its brutal supporters – and to keep the identity of the mother a secret.

  • Not Your Average Coming-of-Age Film

Jenny is a senior in high school, not the most popular/not the most nerdy, her love interest is similar, she is gifted, but unsure of her future. And that's where the cliches stop. Her father is harsh and borderline abusive, but his love for his children is evident. Her mother is a Mexican Edith Bunker and definitely needed more screen time.

Acid Test is delightfully set during the backdrop of the 1992 presidential election, which mirrors Jenny's journey: George Bush represents her path to Harvard, which is safe but will most likely lead to a dull life of civil service. Bill Clinton represents her desire to party and drop acid, which incites Jenny to rebel. It's fun, but unsafe and ultimately self destructive. Jenny struggles with these two choices for most of the film, wreaking havoc on the family and friends around her who just want the best for her.

I would have given it 10 stars had they played up the angle I expected at the end: Jenny ultimately chooses to do something entirely different, no one quite understands it, not even herself: aka Ross Perot.

And I can't stress this enough: the music ROCKS.

  • Best Bad Santa Ever

I love how it starts as Evil Home Alone! Even the music goes there. Mel Gibson is great as manic/depressive Santa, and his wife is good too! I love Walton's ride to Canada, all the transitions, trying to guess what music is going to be played, and the cherry on top that is "all evil guys listen to Rush." Even though I love a movie where Mel Gibson spends it killing fools, there is a quality over quantity feel to this one. The ending is absolutely perfect - not too harsh, not too soft. Is it too early to demand sequels?

  • A Must See for Victims of Sexual Assault

The timing of this film couldn't be better. It is a much watch for anyone who was the victim of a sexual assault or knows someone who is. You will learn so much about the physical and emotional damage it does. Director/writer Jessica Thompson has brought it, and Stephanie Beatriz gives an Oscar-worthy performance!
