Before I start I love horror movies and have seen hundreds of them, new and old. Not sure this really counts as a full on horror. I also saw Barbarian (same person directed this movie) and thought it was a great idea and thoroughly creepy. The trailer for this film had me intrigued but I feel like the film was a let down. I've given it 5 stars based on some of the great cast members, their performances and the beginning. It's a very slow burn movie as they try to uncover the mystery of the missing children. There are some funny moments, some intentional, some I don't think were meant to be, but they are few and far between. The film builds up alot of tension in places, only for it to just move onto the next scene without scaring us. I don't know how the run came about but in the context of a weapon (mentioned in the film) it makes sense. Good to see Justin long appear, only I thought they could've made better use of him. Alot of the film also has repeated scenes due to different character perspectives which I appreciate but it just made the film move along slower. Overall I was expecting tense scares, a high body count (the trailer and movie mention alot of people dying in the story), something alot more original (which it sort of was to start) and a better ending at least. I see alot of people rate this quite high but I just didn't feel like it hit the mark after Barbarian. This is just my honest opinion, you may or may not enjoy it, so if you're intrigued, watch it and make up you're own judgement.
So I love horror movies and have seen the 2 previous films but I think the trailer was better than the actual film. The pace is very slow, there isn't that much action overall, too many zombies with d***s on show, I don't think they knew how to end the movie and Jimmy Savilles. WTF did I watch! I like weird but I didn't enjoy this weird. The previous films were alot better in my opinion. I think the actor who played Spikey did an amazing job though 👍🏻 I can appreciate they did 28 days, then 28 weeks, then this one but maybe it was too late coming. 4/10 from me on this one, I was underwhelmed and left the film feeling disappointed.
