The only reason that this movie got such a low rating is because of how people see James Franco. That is really screwed up. People that are unable to separate art from the pieces they are made up from should never judge art. That is like saying Starry Nights is a bad painting because you hate the color blue. Joey King was a solid choice in the movie. That girl is a monster on screen. I wish that Soledad would have been played by someone better, like Carla Diaz. I loved the way this movie was laid out. The story was great as well. I only wish there was more detail in the middle. This movie should have been 240 minutes long. I hope that Franco makes more like this in the future!!

I know what the story wants people to think about Vernon. That is the part of the movie that REALLY grinds on me. The Vernon story was for what? To have an in-story narration and then a simple way to have at least one death? With the way Vernon was, this makes ZERO SENSE. This movie was REALLY, REALLY TERRIBLE!! This was like Brutalist bad!

The movie itself was easy to follow. What I can't understand is how someone that knows the bible front to back, can have it used against them, like this guy did to his family. The devil tried the same thing on Jesus when he was in the desert. The bible also says the God is happy when his children are at play. He said nothing about Thou offspring needeth not friends in life. This may have been a true story but that wife was at fault just as much as the husband was. Weak people need weaker people under them so they feel bigger. Such a shame that people fall prey to this stuff. I may not be a typical Christian but this behavior makes all Christians look bad. Don't even get me started on the Catholics!
