  • Infuriating poor direction

You know those films where sometimes a character does the most idiotic thing imaginable? This film is a non-stop rollercoaster of the dumbest things you ever see in film. People in real life are not like the sack of doorknobs these people are. (not the actors of course, I mean the characters and what the director does with them.) And to top it off, -none- of it is necessary.

The only reason to watch this film might be for a party challenge to see who can come up with the highest count of idiotic scenes, dialog, and continuity errors.

The most irritating thing above all, is that the director and producers have experience and support and everything they could ask for, and they take all their resources and experience and give us this mess, while I'm sitting here having never directed anything, but I tell you right now, I could do better than this my first time out.

Btw, I stopped watching the film halfway through to write this out. It's that bad. If you have ever once been annoyed by idiotic direction that insults your intelligence, steer clear of this steaming pile.

  • Philip K. Dick strikes again

Watching this one for the first time in 2024. I guess I was too busy in 2012 making plans for the Mayan apocalypse or something and somehow this one got by me. I guess it was fate that I found it this year.

I got hooked into the story right away, and the subtle mix of modern New York and 40's noir made such a compelling atmosphere. Matt Damon was perfect, Emily Blunt did a wonderful job, and the "agents" were perfect too. This film pretty much hits every nail on the head, I'm thinking now was there anything that could have been better and... nope.

The story moved along at perfect clip, it seemed like it was both fast paced and a scenic stroll at the same time. Exciting, yet comfortable. How? I don't know how, why you askin me for?

So at the end I didn't really watch the credits like I usually do because I wanted to pop over here and review this gem. What do I find? Oh look, it's a Philip K. Dick. NO WONDER it was so good. Kind of embarrased about not knowing this one. Keeping it in my back pocket for the next time I hear someone complain about 'theres nothing good to watch.'
